Painting it BLACK
I just ordered a full muzzy system, and want to paint it black.has anyone here painted their pipes black? I want to, but would like some feedback on type of paint and whether to paint the whole thing or just the muffler. All comments apprciated, thanks, Brian W.
Coming from personal experience, painting it is not the way to go. Granted you can get high temp 1200 degree engine paint and spray that, but you will alway have to touch it up. I had a black Vance & Hines meg on my old '83 KZ 650. I repainted it after a couple years. It never held up the same. I have a Muzzy Meg on my '01 ZRX. It was hi temp powder coated by the previous owner. It held up ok, not great. I then have had it Ceramic coated. The people who coated it did it in the wrong color. I wanted it black, they did silver. I painted it with PJ1 hi temp exhaust paint. It looks good, but the head pipes don't hold up well to road debris. I've had to touch it up a few times since Nov.
Spend the money and have it ceramic coated. Worth it in my book.

I'm running a 300 stock exhaust and painted it with high temp (1000 degrees plus) exhaust paint. I aparently didn't clean the header well enough as it boiled off on the first ride but on the muffler can its holding up fine. Just follow the directions on the can as best you can and go with it.
