Default One of the many dangers when riding in Rio

In the picture below, you can see the cut on my neck that I got yesterday, after a kite went down in the middle of the road and its line got tangled on my neck. The 2 riders that were in front of me, were able to avoid it. But I wasnīt so lucky. Actualy, I WAS lucky as the line broke and it didnīt cut deep. This kind of accident has taken a few lives in the past.

The problem is not just the line, but the fact that kids usually coat the line with a mixture of glue and grounded (powder) glass to cut the other kidīs kite line. Iīve done it myself back in the 80īs when I was a kid, but today itīs illegal. Unfortunately, many kids still do it.

I am just glad I am not part of any statistics.

Scary man.
Glad you're OK.
Had a similar thing happen when I was a kid.
Running home from local fishing hole at dusk, got off the path and
ran face first into a barbed wire fence.
Stitches half an inch below my eye.

Just regular line. But, like I said, they coat it with glue and glass powder. Usually they make it by breaking a light bulb and then ground it to a powder. That thing cuts like a knife.

@Malves: Wow, glad you’re OK1

It’s my understanding that ‘Ape Hanger' style bars were originally fabricated to prevent exactly this kind of occurrence. Specifically the practice of rival biker gangs attempting to decapitate one-another with wire. I wonder what the little KLX would look like with a pair of apes!?

I guess these aren't ape hangers but looks like yuo would have to reach up for the bars.
