Default One good thing about the price of gas

This is going to put a demand on the dual sport market. I'll bet every dealer in WI will be out of dual sports by mid-May. That happened in 2008. Mopeds and dual sport bikes went like hot cakes. Hopefully, that'll trigger the manufacturers of bikes and aftermarket gizmos to make a wider variety of stuff to offer the expanding market.

Why dual sports? Does the price of gas make people run for the hills?

I don't want a whole lot of new people riding at once. If too many jump on the bandwagon, everyone's insurance goes up to cover the losses. And even if gas prices do hit the $4.00 mark again, I'm riding because I like the off road scenes.

Dual sports, especially little ones like our 250s, are very comfortable to ride being lightweight and maneuverable. Cheap to buy, versatile in that they can be taken to the hills, and easy to justify vs. say a harley.

Little engine, luggage racks, and high mpg. Those big cruisers are pretty bad on mpg and up front cost.

Guy who owns a shop up north of here told me in Wisconsin in 2003 150 dual sports were sold. Then he said in 2007, like 700 were sold. He told me that in 2008 when he was out of most bikes. The market is expanding.

That also means more demand on stuff to do with your dual sport bike. That's that many more people wanting a decent trail system, which we desperately need.

So wouldn't you agree? That a new biker looking to save money would be better off with a cheap dual sport with only 250cc?

I have a coworker that tells me that his big twin cruiser gets worse mpg than many cars! It is a nice fast ride though.
