Default Is this oil OK to use in my '09 KLX250??

Time to change oil in my '09 KLX! The oil that is in the crankcase is non-synthetic regular sae 10w-40. The booklet says recommended oil type should be API SE, SF, or SG. API SH, SJ, or SL with JASO MA. I picked up 2 quarts of Castrol Actevo X-tra 4T, sae 10w-40, JASO MA-2, API SG, "part synthetic" motorcycle oil. Will this work?? I'm changing the filter also.
Thanks, JG

shouldn't put synthetics in if you're still in the break in period.

Where does it say he's still in his break in period?

Well, I can assure you that you can mix synth and non-synth together without issue. You can change oil types anytime after break in.

No additives either.

Personally, I think oil change frequency matters more than the type of oil you use.

He said "if". Also, this bike needs oil with the JASO additive, unless you want to get real good at putting clutch plates in.

JASO is a spec not an additive. Japanese Automotive Standards Organization.

"This Bike" is no different then any other bike with a wet clutch.
Personaly I use Mobile 1 Full Synthetic, the one with the gold cap. I have used this for more then 10 years in other bikes. My 2001 WR426 had this oil in it from the first oil change. Trust me the WR is way harder on a clutch then the KLX will ever be even with a 351 big bore.

Exactly on both counts. The days of synthetic and mineral oil not mixing are long gone.

Change your oil early and often.

IMHO

Here's a little flow chart I whipped up so you can determine if the oil is good to use in your bike. Please excuse the crudeness of my model, I didn't have time to build it to scale.

It's as simple as that. People try to make it more trivial than it actually is.
