What do you guys recommend for oil change intervals?
On my GS500 I do every 3000 miles..
No idea about the 2009 KLX250SF yet..
Learn me.

 

I have 4800kms on my '09... changed oil about 8-10 times so far... filter every second time.

usually about twice per year on average... and after i've had it on the trails

probably excessive tho - most guys i've talked to do it every 3000kms or so (after the initial break in period)

 

So its safe to do an oil/filter change every 3000 miles with this bike as well?
I always thought "dirtbikes" required shorter oil change intervals... ?

 

I change mine every 3,000 miles or once a year. If I off-road a lot during those miles, then I change it sooner at 1,000 miles.

Don't forget to check the manual.

Don't forget not everyone gets a manual when they buy their bike....

 

That is NO excuse for not checking the manual and following or exceeding the manual's required intervals. I hope you're joking. You can always get the information from the manual, or acquire a new one.

 

My manual said oil change @ 600 miles and then it jumped to 7500 miles or a year (which ever came first)... to me that seems like way too long before an oil change.. that is why I posted up.. :P

 

That's almost like asking what's everyone's favorite color is. LOL you will get a lot of different answers. Pro's change after every race, farmers run it till its too thick to pour..hahaha But seriously run a good oil and change it every 3000 like was mentioned and you'll be good to go. The most important is the first couple of changes. I did the Mototune ( Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power ) break in but even with the standard factory suggestions I would still get that oil out after or just before 100 miles and then again at 500 then go every 3000.
