All the races around here have 125 2 smokes against 250 4 strokes and 250 2 strokes against 450 4 Ouch my head hurts. I was told that thee would be no math.

I have a general 2stroke versus 4 stroke Question.

I just got into a conversation and my Bro-in-law said that basically the 2stroke is twice the 4 stroke bike. In other words. Take any 2 Stroke 125cc and it is equal to any 4 stroke 250cc. Likewise the 250cc 2stroke is on par with the 450cc 4stroke.

So, Good Question. How did the 200cc 2 stroke compare to your 450cc?
Hmmm... Maybe Horizonod asked the same question with way less words

2 stroke has twice as many power strokes at the same RPM as a 4 stroke, so they def make more power given equal displacement. The character of the power is a lot different, though. The KDX200 is pretty tame by 2-stroke standards, though. I remember my brothers RM125 back in 1980 have way more hit that the KDX. That is by design, though, the KDX is a woods / enduro bike. Bikes like the KX, RM, YZ, etc, are MX and have a huge power hit by comparison.

So the KDX200 was nowhere near the power of the 450 4-stroke. That's probably not true of a 250 2-stroke MX'er though.

That's the question. I've always heard the same thing but it's been a LONG time since I rode a 2 stroke. It was a 440 Maico ground thumping trail raping SCARRY thing to ride!! That was in the 80s and I don't remember 4 strokes being an option. When I decided to buy a dual sport and share it with the family I didn't want something that torquey so I went with the KLX 250.

I've heard people say 100 cc's of 2 stroke equalled 50 cc's of four stroke. The engine does have double the power STROKES but does it have double the power??

Yeah, I can only imagine. And modern 2-strokes are much more tunable, too, you can make them hit hard or soft by tuning the power valve or some such, or so I've read. At least that's what they talk about over on the ktm 300 forums - can make it docile or vicious, all from the same bike. Pretty cool. I can see why people like them, it's definitely different.

I can say that switching form 2-stroke to a 4-stoke (for mx) I don't think I was faster but more smoother and controlled. Can use more of the torque and hp with less effort therefore eventually making me more faster... in my own little world.

Dude, you want a blast from the past, check out this one I just put up, too:

http://www.vimeo.com/2656905

I'm riding behind a 32 year old Yamaha IT400. The smell of premix was very strong! It smelled like those little model airplane gas engines we used to fly. Good times.

Both those vids are from a ride I did today. In the one above, I'm following the IT400 on my KTM on the same trail I was following my KTM on the KDX in the previous clip. Confused yet?

Yeah the GG like the KTM and other Euro 2 strokes have a button on the bars dry / wet the wet position tames the power. I rode it on the wet setting and it was still bloody awesome (well I'm used to the stock KLX250)

Lol, this is turning into a ride report, may as well throw up a few photos of our little friend that came bounding down the trail out of no where:

I think he wanted to play.

Something I don't see very often.
