Thanks to all who've replied. You've given me quite alot of intel to ponder. I do like to tinker and have no problems w/the mods Ive been reading about. I really like the idea of picking up the 06/07 model and going from there.
While I will say ill miss the torque and power of my old YZ I must control that rush you get from the hit of the 2 stroke pipe.

My buddy got off his quad HARD last may broke his leg in 2 places he's 47 and he's still recovering so while I like the thought of reliving my mis-spent youth at break neck speed maybe the KLXwill be the perfect thing to ease meback into the 2 wheeler arena w/out killin myself.

With the risk of making some folks upset one poster suggested a Suzuki Dr-z400s... Any further opinions on that from all of you?
I looked at the KTM's and have a friend w/one but I'd Rather save some of that dough for new riding gear, insurance and Mod's....

I'm looking to purchase in the next month or so and have called several dealers in Detroit, Ann Arbor and Lansing MI and they all say they may not see an 09 KLX till June! ARRGHHH

Thanks again

You got to love all the "insurgent trying to take you out, addicts, smear campaign"conspiracy theory spin you try to put on everything.
This is just a simple bike forum and you’re obviously too stupid to realize that most people on here think you’re a buffoon with a 5-year-old mentality that you need attention, and are so hungry for it that even negative attention will work.

If you're looking for objective opinions on the DRZ here, you're in the wrong place. I am the only one who looks at these two bikes objectively. I am the only one here that I know of who has owned botha KLX and a DRZSM. If you are considering the DRZ, get the SM model as it has a lot better suspension and brakes. Plus, you get the SM wheels and it's cheaper to make an SM a dirtbike than it is to make an S or E an SM. If you haven't considered an SM style bike, well, let's just say they're a lot of fun and essentially it's like getting two bikes in one with the dirt/wheels to put on the SM as they bolt right on when you want to go fully off-road.The S has the old style forks where the SM gets the RMZ inverted forks and RMZ rear swingarm, with a slightly lower seat height thrown in on the SM. The DRZ's engine rocks, has killer torque and power. But I will caution you that all DRZ's have a close-ratio 5-speed tranny which is okay around town or in the trails, but at highway speeds approaching 65-70mph the thing is screamin. The KLX is fine after a full exhaust mod, carb mod and airbox mods. But it still willnot run with a stock DRZ after all that. Good luck on your choice.
