Default New Uni filter

Just received my new Uni 2-piece air filter. I've never used a 2 piece before - so bear with me here.

Do I oil both layers or just the outer?

Oil both layers and squeeze out the excess oil.

You'll probably get some differing views on this. Over time with other dual filter setups, I've tried it with both of them oiled and with only the inner one oiled. If the foam on the outer element is as coarse as the UNI, it does very little if it's not oiled. Dust seems to go right through it. I have done something a little different for the last year or so with my UNI. I use that thick, tacky filter oil on my inner element, and then just apply a small amount of 30wt non-detergent motor oil on the outer element. This does a couple of things. That 30wt oil will trap a large amount of dirt while still breathing a bit better than two elements thickly coated with true filter oil. I was noticing a slight air reduction with both elements heavily soaked in filter oil.

Another benefit was that having the outer element in a thinner amount of motor oil was that it kept my airbox a little cleaner overall. True, quality, air filter oil is tacky and nasty, and it's hard to get off of everything it touches. It's even hard to get out of filter element even when using gasoline for the first wash cycle. With motor oil on the outer element and tacky filter oil on the inner, it seems to breath better and yet stills keeps everything out. Using this method I can usually use the inner filter through two cleaning cycles of the outer element.

Unless you use Notoil, and throw your filters in with the laundry.

I use NoToil and think it's really slick ,, but throw it in the laundry? I wash mine in two separate batches of OxyClean

I dont see what the hype is about notoil. I use just regular air filter oil and it works fine. Dont have to buy any special cleaners. I just put a UNI on my KLR650 on saturday and it was one piece. The one on the klx is 2 pieces.

No toil is non toxic and bio degradable - That the big deal. No washing your filter in gas. When done you can throw the dirty water down the drain.
