Default New rear shock

Can anyone recommend a new rear shock for my KLX250sf? I'm 190lbs. and carry either camping gear or rotopax on the back. I've got the spring compressed to max and it seems to really sag in the back.

Actually the stock shock is not too bad. Just needs the correct spring for your weight and some valving changes internally.
A lot of people use Race Tech shims for the shock.
I'd suggest to contact Cogent Dynamics They can help with the spring and rework the valving if you wish.

Save a whole lot of money, get a heavier spring. Maybe when you have down time, like winter, you could actually send the whole shock to a place like Cogent to get damping modified too.

I half way wonder if the suspension on my 250 had been done before since it never bottoms out and works fairly decently, almost stiff, under my 215 lb. It doesn't have much sag when I sit on it.

Thanks Again Mark. This is my shock. Does it look right for 190+luggage? Is this Maxed out? And what would you recommend for the rear clickers? I've settled with 2 clicks out/to the left on the front and it seems to have calmed the front down on rutted roads, Stock or middle position was just a bit too harsh on my SF.

My '09 S model has a white spring. Take Doug's advice and check on a heavier spring from Cogent or another similar suspension specialist. Doug has a great site at this address KLX250S Home Page

I'd bet that it has a replacement spring then, yeah. I'm lighter than you, have my sag set properly, and have my rear compression set two clicks from fully firm, and my rebound set full fast to prevent packing, and I can bottom my shock (verified with a zip tie and by feel) even on undulations and bumps on the street. The stock spring is way too soft.

Yup, heavier spring. I'm 160 w/out gear and the spring rate is perfect for me.

Revalving the rear shock and installing the proper spring rate for your weight makes a HUGE difference in how the rear suspension works.
I used a Racetech Gold Valve kit and a new spring. Not especially difficult to install, but you will need a hypodermic needle and a high-pressure bike pump to fill the gas bladder.

Cogent and Race Tech do not make a spring for the SF. Disappointing!

Did you use air instead of nitrogen?
