I'm trying to picture the skid plate/tool box on the bike.. Seems like a good idea. But does that latch face downwards? If it does, I can't see it lasting too long.. Or maybe I'm just looking at it wrong.. Post a pic on the bike!

It looks like the latch is in the back.

I like that 1 gallon can, don't see it yet on your price list, do you know what you are going to be charging for that?

Thanks

The 1 gal Severe Use can will be $65, a half gal. model will be $55, and I have in development a bracket kit that will allow them to be mounted on hard saddlebags also.
Cousin Larry- the latch rides in the V shape between the bottom of the toolbox and the front of the skidplate. While not totally concealed, it is protected by having the toolbox hanging down in front of it, and the latch does not protrude below the bottom of the skidplate. I have to hinge the door at the top and have the latch down low so if it is left unlatched, the door still rides in the shut direction. Having the latch mounted on top would allow the door to hang open in that situation, and I can't have that.

I may find that I want to make changes to these prototypes, and that's why I show them to the forum. I welcome constructive comments. I want to say, "designed by us, for us."

Man, I have to agree. While none of these items...except for perhaps the skidplate alone...are for me, I think the workmanship is thoroughly impressive. While these are internet pics, it is very apparent that the welding is absolutely well executed. You can't hide that.

This is my new Dakar skid plate with integral Toolbox.
The toolbox is made from extruded box section 1/8" wall 6061T6 aluminum. It has stainless fasteners and a lockable plated clasp. The ground clearance isn't affected. There is plenty of clearance also for the front tire. Toolbox is 2 x 6 x 9, it will hold a spare innertube, or a good sized tool roll.

I plan to get pics of it tomorrow on the bike. This is the same skidplate but with the toolbox added, both are available.

I think the latch should be on the top. That way less mud would get in the latch, also if you are putting stuff in there the door would always be dropping down if the latch was on the bottom. Just seems more ergonomical to put latch on top. Although mud would still get on the latch from the front wheel. Something to think about
