New member here, I lucked into a 2006 thats more or less new. Its been parked for years, came with all records, had its first dealer oil change in 06 at 250 miles, then again in 09 at 1,000 miles then again this past week when it was brought out of storage and had its entire fuel system gone through, I bought it at 1,200 miles.

Anyway, my plan for my bike is to set it up more for trail riding, say 90/10 and the 10% being back roads, which is why I wanted a street legal dual sport. I have a heavily modified DR650 as well, which is a fantastic bike I just wanted something smaller and lighter for real trail riding, the DR is at home on fire roads!

Thanks for having me!

Well, IMO you got one of the best KLX's to use for more dirt oriented riding. While they're definitely not street legal KTM350 EXC-F's, the '06/'07 KLX's are closer to the off-road-only KLX300. In fact on my '06 I used suspension valving, springs, etc. designed for the 300. The 11" of travel helps a good bit. Nothing wrong with later KLX's, but my take is that the '06/'07 models are a little bit better in the dirt. Have fun with that great find.

Thanks everyone! Here is a picture, its really like a new bike. I have it torn apart right now, I pulled the carb and am waiting for the new jets to get here. Its never been in the dirt or down, I think I did alright!

Looks like a score to me. Very nice! If you got some extra $ look into the big bore kits. I am kicking myself for not doing it years ago.

I know, I bought it sight unseen, the situation was it was a ladys husbands bike. He sadly got sick and passed away. She had the dealership that he bought it from and did all the service to it pick it up. They cleaned the carb, acid washed the tank, installed a primer kit, new air filter, oil change and put a battery in it. I was looking at an 09 that had new tires and all but had almost 10,000 more miles. I offered her what the 09 was selling for and she took it. I was able to call the dealership and spoke to the Kawasaki service guy, he laughed and said its as close to a new 06 as your going to find! There isnt a scratch on it, still has all the info decals on it too! It came with the owners manual, keys, original sale paper work and all the paperwork for each service on top of the new parts and work that was done to it the day before I picked it up! Id call it a score. I plan on eventually putting a 300 jug and piston on it, probably Cogent Dynamics suspension as I love the setup I have on my DR front and rear, a full exhaust though I really hate how aftermarket mufflers sound. On my DR650 I got a mid pipe and put a factory Suzuki GSXR muffler on it, it looks stock, weighs a lot less and sounds great so I may try to fab something up to use a bigger bore factory pipe. I plan on using it as a trail bike but dont plan on beating it to death. I still cant believe it more or less fell in my lap!
