Hello, My name is Pete and I justed joined this forum. I have wanted a KLX250s since 06. I have owned a KDX 200 before. But wanting to go with a street legal bike. I hope to purchase a bike soon.

Any advice on the pros or cons between 06-07 and the 09's would be great.
The big bore kits look awesome, so I possibly see that in the future.
I'm sure I can't go wrong with either model.

Thanks, Pete

Hey Pete, welcome to the forums. I personally like the 06-07 better, but that's because I got the first one here on the site back in November of 05. I suppose if I would have got an 09 recently, then I would probably be promoting that model. But really they are both great bikes. I haven't even seen the 09 anywhere but on the forums and a quick glance at the bike shop. It does look nice with the more modern design. But I'm old school, as you can tell by my home made mudflaps. Hit the Craigs List in your area. In the Seattle area there were like 5 of them for sale the other day.

I think the 06-076 have longer suspension travel, but their seats might be taller. KDX 200s are fun bikes, I almost bought one until I found a good deal on a KTM 200. Good luck finding a bike, and welcome.

Sorry I just realized that if I'm gonna talk about mudflaps, then I better produce a picture right?

Deej, nice mods there. Not just the mud flaps. I really like the squished Koolie mounted with duct tape of the fork. But you've got the engineering all wrong. The beverage service should be mounted on the clutch side, to allow access during acceleration. Better yet, get a gimbal mounted marine Koolie with a three foot straw. Hydration and acceleration in one convenient package.

What's a coolie? That's a spare inner tube.

I couldn't imagine drinking while riding... though I have rode to the corner store and back carrying beverage

Get the '09. I coulda bought an 07 but I figure Kawasaki had a year or two to tweak the design for the better after the 06/07s were out a while. I guess I'm the "new school" to Deej's old school. I wanted the latest design. Not much difference between the years other than an inch of suspension travel, digital instrumentation on the 09, different headlight, new plastics. Just do a quick search of the forum and you'll find several discussions of the differences between the two bikes.

Kawasaki has had about 15 years to tweak this bike.
The switch to the 09 was probably the biggest change for many a year.
From what I can gather, they pushed slightly more to the pavement end of the dual sport range.

Oh, Hello and welcome.

If you want more off-road I'd say go for 06-07. More on-road go for 09.

My buddy has 09 and it seems like it's more road-oriented.

And I guess since I do ride alot of roads (though I treat it like a dirt bike) I like the 09. Its my first motorcycle I just ride it anywhere and everywhere within reason. Its so retarded... I ride mostly roads... they just happen to be in the national forest in BFE. I also terrorize the 'burbs. I really need that Muzzy pipe just for that reason alone
