Default new member, 1st question...

Hey all,

I'm writing from Siena Italy, but will be back in the states in less than a month.
I have JUST put money down on a 2007 KLX 250s, a shop up in NH. I'm so stoked.
1st bike Iv'e owned in about 10 years.
I grew up in the northeast riding Hondas, ATV's then XRs most of my life.
This is my 1st "non Honda" and based on what Ive read in this forum, thanks to
all you, i am VERY much looking forward to the change.

anyways, my 1st, and basic question:

I have heard many opinions about how to properly break in this bike,
aside from the factory suggested...
what is the (current) best idea on what to do with a brand new baby?
or is it best just to follow the factory guidelines?

thanks for your thoughts,
peace,

ian

Break it in like you are going to ride it.This is what I did.

Always get the bike to full operating temp before you rev it too high.
First ride I reved it to 4-5000 rpm's and rode for about 20 minutes.
Full cool down
Second ride I reved it to 4-5000 with short bursts to 7-8000rpm and rode about 1/2 hour.
Full cool down
Third ride I reved 5-7000 with short bursts 8-10000rpm and rode about 1/2 hour.
Full cool down
Fourth ride was about the same as third ride but I did take it to redline.
Full cool down.
Repeat fourth ride a few times
Change oil and filter
Ride it like you stole it.

Notes Warm the bike up before rev it high. I dont like to warm it up at idle, just keep the rev's low. Dont lug the engine during break in. My short bursts were usually in 2nd or 3rd gear and I rolled off the throttle instead of shifting up. I broke it only on the street.

Myself i broke it in according to the manual, but no religiously. Its hard to have fun keeping it under 4000rpms. I did my best but i also had to do a bit better than 4000 going up some hills. I didnt ride it like i stole it from the get go is all i'm saying really. then after 1000 miles i started to put the boots to it. runs great for me
