Default New Kriega R8 bumbag.

Got this brought over from the UK by my pop as here was comin' over for a few weeks R&R.

Not a bad price really when you look at the quality and features in the bag. (UK 60 quid.)

The name suggest it holds 8 litres of gear. A 6 litre main compartment and a 2 litre 'side pod' that has a 100% dry area of about 1.5 litres.

The main compartment has a sturdy flap secured by two clips that has a tough mesh pocket on the underside. Under the flap is another small pocket suitable for maps etc (slim.) Undo the waterproof YKK zip to enter the main compartment and you have a tool roll made of very heavy duty Cordura. It is fairly large and has 30 elastic loops and a tough full width mesh pocket. When rolled it is secured by velcro and a buckle and when inside the bag is secured by a cradle and a snap buckle. The tool roll will fit an 8" spanner inside and is about 9" by 22'" when fully unwrapped. There is also a zipped mesh pocket inside the main compartment suitable for small items. My fully laden tool roll secured inside the main compartment still allows use of the internal pocket and some space for other tools and gear. My small bike pump, patch kit and a large clean rag fit with some space left over .

The smaller, 2 litre 'side pod' is well made and claims to be 100 % waterproof with the use of its removable Ripstop liner. It too has a tough mesh pocket under the flap. There are actually two compartments on the 'side pod.' One, the larger of the two using a 'wet bag' style roll down top and clip to secure and the other using a heavy duty YKK waterproof zip. At this time they are empty but no doubt I'll find a use for them when the rains come. Would be a good spot for digital camera, spare batteries and the like, and the smaller pocket will get used for my wallet, keys, and 'at hand' items when delving into the main compartment would be a chore.

There is also a secure key tag in one of the pockets but I forget which one. I think it's on the 'side pod.'

At this time I have transfered about 95% of the gear from my "beat to death" $10 bumbag into the Kriega. I'm very suprised at how much space is left considering the old bag was pretty full. There are a few items I still have to place but with ample space left I don't foresee any worries.

With the bag loaded with tools and secured around my waist I can say it is very very comfortable, and very secure. The Kriega patented buckle (T6 alloy) allows you to tighten, or loosen the belt on the fly once the basic length has been set and allows for easy removal of the bag or the ability to rotate it on your waist.

As yet it's untried on the trail but I'll add some further editorial once I get it dusty.

Here are a few photos of the features I've described. Note my shiny ratchet spanners newly imported from the UK by "the old man."

Lastly, 10 year warranty.

nice buy. i have the thor vault and swear by the thing. i need to go threw it as i tear it apart everytime i work on the bike, but i keep everything i need besides stuff to change a flat, which i keep that all in a fender pack for long rides. i the pack with a 3 liter camel back thats zip tided to my chest protector, so no need for a back pack 90% of the time.
