NEW to KLX250S/Dual Sports
My Corbin is built this way, it doesn't add any height, and I consider it to be darn near perfect. Everyone has their personal preferences, of course.
many seats slope narrower as they rise, so you can slice the stock foam down to the wide part than build it back up with wider foam, the stock seat cover usually can be reused. I have used free new carpet padding scraps which actauuly works pretty good for seats. My klx has more of a dirt roll so haven't gone this route, I use a klx shape foam made with crf honda foam from gutts racing, The kawasaki foam was too soft and I felt the seat pan ( a shorter rider may be more forward and into the thicker foam)
The Acerbis tank will keep the choke **** from fully extending, someone hear or on ADVrider, used a dremel to cut off the part of the **** that hits, and another replaced it with a flexible shaft (don't ask me how).
And yes, you won't use the front plastic, the tank wings will use that space for gas.
And if you get a seat concepts, you can ask to have some foam shaved off to lower it a little. Going that route myself. I can deal with being on tip toes on the street but an inch lower on the trails could help with dropping the bike on uneven ground (but only a little).
If you do any off-road, a skid plate and hand guards should be first. It'll save money in the long run, by not buying replacement controls or engine cases!
I was going to remove my snorkel, until I started off-road riding, we have too many water crossings (already gotten water in the carb twice, with no crashes in the water, just riding through), so I'm ordering the KDX snorkel.
Been collecting parts slowly for the airbox, smog and carb jetting mods to be done all at once.
As for the PowercoreIV it fits, I had to apply some leverage to bend it away from the airbox, but it worked. I bought one used, it's wicked loud, hoping it needs a re-pack!

I trimmed off part of the **** handle, making it from an "O" to a "D" and it works fine for me. Others have made the shaft shorter or attached a flexible handle like you say.
@ IDRIDR - do you use rad guards with your Acerbis, if so what kind?
I use Scorpion rad guards and wonder if the cross brace will be a problem in mounting the tank, want the gas capacity but gas will get you nowhere w/o a radiator.

I can't see any rad guards fitting my '06 with the Acerbis, but I know this. You don't need rad guards with this tank. I've thrown mine down many, many times and all it's done is slightly scrape the tank. The plastic on the tank is incredibly tough, and it doesn't flex around when you drop the bike to crush the radiators. There are also metal supports that go from the bottom of the tank mounts and into the frame for more support. I've been amazed at how stout those two lower frame mounts are. I figured they would have bent after the first couple of crashes where the tank hit the ground. After a lot of time on this tank, I think if you had a crash that needed rad guards with this tank, you wouldn't have a gas tank left. Maybe others have had different experiences with this tank.
What have you heard about the IMS Tanks?
Anything you could help shed light upon with my decision making on a tank would be greatly appreciated!

With changing out my sprockets, I guess I'm already set up at 13/42.
What would I want to go to get a little more umph out of my KLX without dropping tons into it right this minute?

Yes, I do. I had Unaguards on before the Acerbis tank and use them with the tank on now. It took a bit a grinding away on the rear brace portion of the Unaguards to prevent interference with the tank. I had a stick hop up on a trail ride and go right into the guard bending it in some and would have most likely punched a hole in the rad if not for the guard. Funny thing though, if I would have got the tank first, I would have never installed guards! Happy to have both.
