new to forum, just bought 2009 250s, help on finding mods
Just purchased a 09 250s. I have done some research here and on thumper. Wanted to see if anyone can help me on the best parts and if there is any one site that carries all the parts and who you prefer to get parts from.
Here is what I am thinking of doing for now.
KDX200 snorkel
Air filter (will be riding alot of dirt and trails)
13 tooth sprocket
Jet kit (stage 1 or stage 1&2 kit)
Best spark plug (live at around 1000 sea level)
Modify stock exhaust but still keep it spark arrestor legal (maybe some kind of aftermarket end cap)
Does anyone have a good way of removing rear lighting for a full dirt weekend to eliminate breakage
And any other ideas other than big bore and new exhaust for now.
Thanks ahead of time for help
David

I have a 09 SF and here are the mods done:
Leo Vince Exhaust
NGK Iridium Spark Plug
Jet Kit
I chose to leave the stock air filter its pretty good. Air filters are a religious issue, I'm not a fan of oiled cotton filters aka K&N your mileage will vary.
I have seen many mods to the stock exhaust and I simply chose to replace it. I think it would take a lot of work to really make it flow better and may be visible from a simple visual inspection.......
As everyone will tell you a big bore kit is the ONLY way to get a good increase on performance. The a jet kit and pipe will get a decent increase. Having said that I'm saving my money for a 330 kit.
As for vendors I have used in the past
Busters dirt shop - Random Parts
Rocky Mountain ATV - Random Parts
TREMX.com - LeoVince Exhaust
WheelingCycleSupply.com - Led Brake Light
NorthCost Motorsports - Seat Concepts Foam and Cover, Wolfman Enduro Tank Bag
motorcycle Superstore - Pirelli Sport Demon Tires
All the vendors have been good.
Just an FYI the jett kit is VERY generous with the jetting. Plan on re-jetting it a few times to get it right.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome! While I don't have the bike yet, I'm paying toward a 2012 the dealer is bringing in in April. So I'm hoping to have it by then, if I don't find a nice deal on an older bike for cheap. The dealer is a friend and told me to keep looking for cheap older bikes for my purposes since he'll have no problem selling the 2012 when it gets in.
You should really like the bike, and the forum members here are great folks, full of information. Here's the first link they passed to me when I came on board.

Seems like the biggies are pipe/jetting/air cleaner, big bore and starter jet mod.
Have fun and get dirty!

Most aftermarket exhaust have a spark arrestor and that is the single best mod for a stock bike to help with it's anemia. Some good knobbie tires if you are serious about off roading as the stockers are challanged in most peoples yards. Jetting for what ever combo of ac and box modifications as well as your exhaust. Jet last as you want to do it as few times as possible. There are some good choices for a slightly bigger than stock fuel tank now and that is nice when you leave civilization.
