Default New Competition for the KLX

2013 CRF250L Overview - Honda Powersports

20 pounds heavier, but I wonder what the HP will be?

Nice looking bike. It looks like they took some styling cues from the KLX250S.

If I start getting tickets and pain on my DRZ400, I think that Honda is the perfect downgrade. Faster than the KLX, but has some wicked gas mileage, yet way cheaper than the WR250X.

Yeah, I've been keeping up with this bike over in a huge thread on ADV. While I'm somewhat impressed with some aspects of this bike, there are some issues that make it a non-starter for me...at least at this point. And I'm no Honda hater by any means. I had 4 XR250's between '84 and '90.

The first problem is the weight. There's some heft packed into this bike. The second issue is the suspension travel. I think the 10" or so in the later model KLX is at the minimum for anything that's going to see real trail work. It's one reason I really love the 11" out of my '06. The 8.7" fork just kills it for me. And then there's the fuel tank issue. No one makes a bigger tank for this thing yet, and the fuel injection, pump in the tank will drive up the price. I don't get these manufacturer's thinking on these "adventure", DS bikes having such small tanks. If you really go on an adventure, it really will turn into an adventure when you have to walk out of the boonies in MX boots. A 3 gallon tank isn't a supertanker, but it would go a long way with the kind of fuel mileage that they get. The ground clearance on this bike isn't very good either. I smack enough things with my relatively tall, resprung KLX as it is.

I like Honda, but there's nothing extremely groundbreaking or spectacular here. The Yamaha WR250R is way ahead of this bike on all fronts. The one, really good issue is the price. It's surprisingly cheap. I'll give them that. And it will fit the commuter/urban category quite well with the price, fuel mileage, and low seat height. I'm sure the reliability will be very high too.

Why is Honda pricing the Crf 230L more than the Crf 250L? Great price on the 250, if that is correct?

If the rumor has 23hp then the reality will be 18-20hp at the wheel just like our KLX. Although I'd prolly be in for some USD showa suspenders. Nobody does plush like Showa.

Nice bike. I'm sure it's reliable too coming from honda.
It's more a paved road dual sport looking at the specs. It's also a Super heavy weight. for now, I think our klx is a better dual sport.
Can't wait for a side by side showdown.

Curb Weight 320 pounds
Fuel Capacity 2.0 gallons

320 pounds for a 'new' 250?

Wrong direction Honda.

And like TNC said, 2 gallon capacity for a dual sport?

I'll stick to my 'obsolete' Sherpa and XT225.
