Default New to the bike world!!!

i bought my first bike about a month ago, needless to say a 07 KLX 250. I went with this bike cause i loved the look of it, good price, as far as i could tell it was a good starter bike and not to mention the kawasaki dealer here is also my polaris snowmobile dealer, which I have rode for years so i know the guys there pretty good. Anyway i started looking around on the net and found this site and started reading about what mods and tuning people are doing. I read a couple posts about gearing and it got my attention, i noticed the bike is a bit sluggish so i got the 13t front sprocket. good but not good enough in the sand, still to high, so i got a new back sprocket coming now. 51t. Anyone try this setup? and what about carbs? i want to get rid of the cvt crap or whatever it is. Who ever heard of turning the throttle and the carb not opening? thats for panzies. But all in all love the bike cant wait for the next ride.

You will loose all of your top end with a 13/51 gear ratio. If you do any street riding you may not be happy.Try 13/45 and or 14/45 , 14/47,and do all the free mods plus pipe and you should be happy. If not do the 300 kit with pipe and mods, plenty of power then.

Welcome! I agree with dmar on this one. I think a 13/51 is a little too much. Try out a 13/45 first and you will be happy without loosing your top speed. It will give you plenty of low end power and make is easier on tight trails. Good luck with your bike I love mine!

I'm running14/49and there is about 1/8" of space from the lower rear chain guide and the teeth of thesprocket. You will have to remove your lower chain guide, and the upper guard, to install a 51t sprocket. I had to remove the top chain guardto fit the 49t. Nobrakes has a thread with a lot of good info on this subject.

Sorry, I ment to reply to Biglandrider not Digitaloverkill

Holy cow man hold on there a second. welcome to the forums, there is not even a 51 tooth sproket made for these bikes. first go to planetklx.com and do the free mods. then either wait for the 250 engine to break in and then you will be suprised by how much power there is or if you are really excited go and put a 300 kit in and you will be set. this bike is the same as the klx300R so you buy the same stuff. you can also get a 331 big bore kit and also a 365 stroker kit i would not go that big only because then your life on the engine goes way down. do not be affriad to chime in lots of great people, hope to see you more often and have fun with your bike.

Trust me, after doing the Jetting and a full muzzy as well as running the 13-45 gears and the air box lid off, the bike has more power that I will ever need. And I'm 6-1 and 260 lbs. Don't get impatient too fast, let the bike break in, I noticed an increase in power at around 600 miles, and then Ihad the rest of the work done, you will be very happy after you open it up some more.

I'm pretty sure its broke in with 1200 on it, and as for top end, dont need it. the fastest speed limit here is 80kph and i only ride on the road to get to trails anyway. I love bottom end, i'm riding in really soft sand, like beach sand so i need low gears to get the tire spining. But anyway I'll let you know how it works out and i'll put up my location in a bit.
