New Bike Questions HELP
This is the first time I ever bought a new bike. Well I didn't buy one yet. The first place I stopped at wanted to charge me like $5498 for taxes freight etc Out the door That was a big rip off because I started calling around and got like every dealer to lower there prices for this bike. I thought $5023 was heck of a deal. I'm really looking into the drz-400s model. I want to use the bike to cruise around with my buddies and travel back and forth to work. I would also like to go on a road trip some day so thats why I mentioned about the highway.
Setup & freight are bogus charges that is all profit by the dealer. I have never & will never pay them. If a dealer starts talking that stuff I walk. MSRP + tax, + title, + lic is the absolute most you should pay & I have never even had to do that (these rules dont apply to Hardleys). I too would like to see an acounting of the $3,999 OTD unit. OTD means ready to ride all taxes, paperwork, & tags paid.
I guess it goes back to that old standard of Supply and demand. When I bought the bike back in November of 2005 I demanded that they supply me with the first one they got in. I guess because I wanted it so badly and they knew it, I lost the buying negotiation power. Oh well, like I have said before I would have paid a lot more then for the bike. And after seeing how fun this machine really is, I would still pay more today. Its only money right?..........Riiiiiight.[8D]

well, Snal was the one I was talking about who got his holdover new '06 for $3999, at least that is what i remember him saying. I negotiated mine for $300 off msrp which was $4399 for an '06. otd was $4675. i requested the one that was still crated up, so no one put their hands on mine before i bought it. of course you'll pay more for it when it first comes out. and never let them know inside you're french kissing the bike. believe me, i know how you feel deej. not many things more beautiful than a nice clean dirt bike.
I don't know the prices over there but from what you have said IMO the best thing for you would be a KLR650. It will cruise all day long on the road and is fine for easy dirt roads. There is a HUGE following for these bikes in the States and LOTS of aftermarket upgrades. There seems to be loads of good second hand ones about if you can't afford new.
Good luck
Good luck
I dont' want to get a KLR 650 because they dont' look so nice. Trying to pick upwomen and ride if you know what I mean. I need a bike that looks good and drives nice on the highway and dirt. I used to have a Lifan 200cc enduro bike. That bike would get 100miles to 1gal of gas. But it would only go about 65- 70mph maxed out. Only paid $1400 for it brand new. I had fun riding last year. I decided this year to get a real bike.

However, at 49 I'd probably be like a dog chasing a car ......... don't know what to do with it once I catch it! [sm=drooldude.gif] [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
BK3939,
Do a google search for the 2008 KLR650. The 2008 is supposed to be available in June. The new fairing, front fender, and side panels make it look very different from earlier versions. It's more touring bike than offroad, but you'll definitely be able to ride two-up after you pick-up a chick...
