Default Needed, a stock needle and main jet KLX250s

I bought an '09 KLX250s that had a DynaJet kit installed and an FMF Q4 muffler.

I've gone to a stock muffler and replaced the missing snorkel as I like the bike quiet.

It's way rich now so does anyone have a stock needle and main jet they no longer need?

Price shipped to 81252 cheapest way?

Thanks, L D

Have you tried just dropping the needle 1 clip?

No on dropping the needle. I live at 9,300' elevation and most of my riding is above 5,000' minimum elevation so doubt I can get lean enough with the DynaJet main in there. I'd rather go to stock to start. The bike was bought from a guy who rode at 4,000' elevation, it's mighty rich... :-) It stumbles a lot from half throttle up. It didn't do that with the FMF Q4 on and the snorkel removed, but for the stock muffler and snorkel back in it is just way rich.

No, I would agree that you'll probably need a main jet drop, but I'd try to keep that DJ needle...just lean it out by dropping it down on the clip. The OEM needle is pretty lousy IMO. You may just need to set up the DJ needle at the right position to suit your bike now.

Thanks TNC, I'll consider keeping the DJ needle and drop jet size. How could I refuse someone's advice from Abilene, TX? LOL! I worked there quite a few years ago. :-)

Military by chance? I worked at Max's Cycles (Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Polaris) for about 15 years as a mechanic part time to pay for my nasty motorcycle habit.

While you're in the carb, make sure the previous owner didn't up the pilot jet from the stock #35.

No, I worked as an electronic tech for the railroad and covered west Tx for quite a few years.

Yeah I'll look the carb over closely, I can see with an inspection mirror the idle mixture needle is unplugged.

I'm 73 now and have ridden and wrenched on bikes for over 60 years. :-)

I currently have a KLR250 at 330cc, KLX250, DR650, SV650, '85 Sabre 700 and an '89 Sportster so I keep a little busy still. LOL! Oh and I still work as an electronic tech for 35 hours a week.....

Dude!...it's time to retire and enjoy life...LOL!

Yeah, I know what you mean. When I was in my 40's, I thought there would be no way I'd still be riding at 61. Well...here we are.

Hey, I notice you have a DR650. I just read a post over on ADV of a 790 kit installed on a DR. Just sayin'.

Does kawasaki offer a leaner jetting spec. in a bulletin for altitude?
It would be interesting see it if they did.
To keep it snuffed up as stock and run well at your elevation I wouldn't be surprised if you had to size down even on the pilot.

10000 ft ? yikes! I almost needed a jet and a needle for my lungs goofing around leadville CO few yrs ago.
