Default Need some good sum it up info???

Ok I have been reading up on alot of different mods. I will eventually do the jets exhaust etc. But to start off the process I was going to get the 13t sprocket and do the jets.
I'm wondering what jets I should get? I won't be able to do the exhaust for awhile because of cost. And is there a kit I can get with the jets I need with the mod for the slide?

Is there something I should do with the air box once I do the carb up?

Will I get much for power out of it with just doing the carb and jets and sprocket?

Thanks

If you rejet you will get a slight improvement in power, nothing dramatic but noticeable. I think the Dyno Jet kits for the 09 model include a different spring for the slide. If you get the lighter spring you don't need to drill out the slide vacuum port. The idea is to allow the slide to move up faster improving throttle response. This can be done in one of two ways, by using a lighter return spring or increasing the size of the vacuum port. You can do one or the other no need to do both. I'm using the stock idle jet with the mixture screw backed out 2.5 turns, an N1TC needle from the KLX 300 clip in third groove, and a 122 main jet. I drilled my slide to 7/64" I also removed the airbox lid snorkel. The 13 tooth sprocket will help too.

That's good advice.
I don't think there's a need to buy the jet 'kit'. Just get the needle, and main jet from your dealer, and drill the slide. I think roadglider is close with the 122. If money is tight, consider buying a muffler on Ebay (used, from a 4 stroke mx bike), and having an exhaust shop bend up a secondary pipe to fit. That's how I did my first exhaust, and it worked great. Total cost was $50. Of course, you'll want to jet up again, after the muffler. Removing the backfire screen helps.

+1 on the N1TC needle, a number of people on here seem to prefer it, I'm happy with it as well. As for the air box, you probably dont need to do much of anything with it till you open up the exhaust with a header or pipe. Just jetting, gear, and slide mods are a great place to start and get it a little more responsive.
