Well It was thanksgiving here last weekend and we had a bunch of people coming over Saturday night for turkey dinner. I hadn't had much time to myself lately so when my wife asked if I would stay home and cook the bird while she went out for the day I reluctantly said OK.
It was not long after she left that things started to get off the rails.
there was a little voice in my head (we will call this voice one) reminding me of all the bike goodies I had out in the shop.



Then there was this other voice (voice two) telling reminding me not to forget to pull the neck and guts out of the turkey before I washed it.
Voice one said"Hey man it's early yet and you could probably get the plastics off the bike before even starting the turkey. "No" I replied in my most mature inside my head voice that I could muster! " I better get this done cause this thing is going to take quite a while to cook.
Half an hour later,

I found myself out in the shop, I was pretty sure that voice one was coming from my dog Nellie. That's it..that's what happened Yeah my dog told me to do it...
I came to my senses and rushed into the house, grabbed the turk from the fridge and washed him up in the sink, using really hot water also cleaned my hands fairly well too.




I quickly cranked the oven on and put the turkey in the oven remembering to remove the neck and the snorkle from the air box.




After some messing around I managed to remove the carb, and lay it out on the cutting board..I mean bench.





By the time the dog came out from hiding ( she generally gives me lots of room when she hears my outside voice cursing ), I had the carb apart, the turkey was ready for a basting so wiping my hands off on my pants and dog, I whipped into the kitchen to appease voice two.



After basting the birdy, I resumed my chores out in the shop.









Voice one reminded me that my wife would be home soon so..




Nellie said that she would'nt be home for ages and that I should actually be in the shop so..

I slapped the carb back together



Deep down I could feel impending panic as I realized that my mom would soon need to be picked up, and that I was supposed to be the picker upper!!

I ripped in to the kitchen just in time to rescue the turkey, as I had pretty much forgotten about it except for the roasting turkey smell all through the house.



I got him out of the oven in the nick of time, and headed off to get my mom.





My wife came home just as I got my mom settled into the house so Nellie told me to go back out to the shop to "tidy up"



Everything worked out, the bike flashed up withthe first push of the button, the company arrived just after I got back from "Just running down to the store" on by much louder and snappier bike. The turkey was good even with the somewhat gassy odour, and the tools washed up great in the dishwasher.

That was great!! Loved all the pics. If you cooked a Thanksgiving dinner and rebuilt your carb without anything going majorly wrong, you should have also run out and bought a lottery ticket. If I had tried all of that, my family would have been eating down at KFC while while the smoke cleared out of the house, and I would have been home alone, online, ordering another circleclip for the carb needle.

 

I was pretty fried by the time the guests got here!! A few beers and I had forgotten all about it!!
