Default My bike won't start

It sat for a week and half. That's bogus if that's enough time for the battery to die. it was even started for a few minutes during that time, but not ridden.

I get all sort of lights and everything turns on, just press the ignition, and nothing. Can this bike be push started from a hill? How fast do I need to get? Do i need to be in gear or is neutral OK? of course it's 6pm on a friday and I have a ride I wanted to get to in the morning.

BASTARD!

Good God man! Check the KILL SWITCH!

Learn from me, the idiot! All is well!

Quick check would be kickstand switch and wires and kill switch...A couple of my past old bikes had issues with kill switches...Under the seat wires as well......

But I too have an 09 and my ignition switch has been a royal pain...sticks real bad and either wont turn to the on postion or it wont allow me to take the key out...Maybe try turning the key back and forth a few 10 times and try it...

Dunno

**I see you found it**LOL

Girlfriend started it to move it for me while I was away. She put the kill switch to off. Yeah, I didn't check it, because, well, I never use it unless it's some kind of minor emergency.

But, can you bump start it? Does it have to be in gear?

so it was the kill switch after all? my '09 starts on demand. it once sat for two weeks and started instantly with choke, turn choke off immediately after it starts and it idles perfectly. that's the routine with every cold start. my '09 is not nearly as temperamental to start as the '06 I had was. It would crank and crank if it sat for one day before it started.

but on the subject of push starting, if you don't know how you should learn.

Every bike is different, but for the most part

turn the key on
choke on if bike is cold
bike in neutral
push the bike as fast as you can
hop on and slip it into gear
drop the clutch and she should spark up
turn off choke.
you should practice anyway

SOmething on the bump starting...Put it in more like 3rd gear, or maby even 4th.. Hold the clutch in while pushing it, run as fast as you can, and hop on, as your azz hits the seat and the wheel gets lots of traction pop the clutch out.
The higher the gear you are in the easier the motor turns over, if your in 1st gear, your wheel is going to want to just skid on the ground.
But of course you dont want to be in to high of a gear or it won't turn your motor over fast enough.. 3rd or 4th is good

That's exactly the way to bump start a bike. Higher gear and just as your azz hits the seat let the clutch out. Spot on!

2nd gear also works for bump starting. Ya, gotta love the kill switch. I've done that many times before. Another is switching the fuel selection to off and then driving about half mile just to have the engine die and not restart right away.
