So I get home today and what do I find on the lawn? Yea see in small towns they just toss your packages in your yard, I mean nobody bothers anything here. So I figure since I dropped my wife off at the airport for a three week visit in Houston, I better get some stuff done around the house. And since I wanted to keep my priorities in order I decided to start with the new chain.





But first I need to get the old one off and clean things up a little. And it turned into a full blown bike detail. .

And then it struck me that I should give the can a good polish while I had it off, so there went another hour.






back to work, I used a claw hammer and another hammer to tap off the end plate.




This is what I pulled out of the pipe. And I think the guy from Muzzy was right, I might find that after 6000 miles the pipe really didn't need to be re-packed.

Now what is nice about the Muzzy is that according to the guy on the phone and the instructions you leave the plastic membrane on the packing, and it makes slipping in the new stuff a breeze. After the pipe heats up the plastic melts and the packing expands.

All in all it took 2 hrs to get the pipe off the bike, tear it all apart and re rivet it and get it back on the bike.

By the way, did you get 120 links with the Renthal chain.

deej did you order a new core to the muzzy? or did it just come with it? when i ordered my repacking thats all it was, ya had to take the core out, then put the new packing around the old core and replace, but they said to use masking tape to hold it together,,,, i dont know if i would want all that plastic in the muffler.... but good job.... so why a new chain and not sprockets?

 

Yea it was the 120 link. I had to remove 4 links or 8 however you count them. I turned the adjusters to 1 and I just couldn't get to the next link, so I had to back it off and now I'm already at #7, so I'm going to have to let the chain stretch a little and then take out one more link to get back to 1 on the adjuster.

The reason that I got the new chain, and I forgot to include that picture in these, was that my old standard chain was so worn that I could actually make a happy face with it as it lay flat on the bench. That's a good sign that a chain is done. Also my sprockets still look brand new, there is no indication of wearing at all. I've got 8,000 miles on the 13 and about 6500 on the 45.

 

Are they steel Jt sprockets?

 

Yes the rear one is a JT and the front one was a Sunstar or something like that. I forgot. Hey West, what time is it over there? Or what day?

It came with the new core. The plastic burns off pretty quick, or so I've been told. I haven't started the bike yet as it was 11 pm and I don't think the neighbors would appreciate that, and its pouring rain here today so I drove the Camry. First time not riding the bike to work in 115 days.

 

I did around 9:00 pm start the bike for just about 3 seconds with just the head and mid pipe no can, man that was so loud it sounded like my old Firebird with just the headers.
