Default moding a 300 exhaust??

Any of you guys done any mods to the 300 exhaust setup??

Cleaning up where the header meets the port?

Iv read about someone grinding out the weld inside the header
to smooth out the flow?

Removing stock butt plug and building a custom, straight or turndown?

What have people done??

Cheers

I built some stuff but ended up with a alum down turn exhaust tip off ebay , gives the uncorked pipe a good sound and is little quieter. I then made a 1" tube to slip in when I want it even quieter. Total stealth is using the stock peashooter tip.

Another (no cost) thing you can do is space the stock plate out with a couple washers between the tip and the muffler body, in essence creating at 360deg exhaust leak (think supertrapp discs). I put a little alum tape on the fender where the exhaust might stain the plastic.

Sounds to me like you have searched for the info your looking for. The info is out there just gotta look for it.

Everyone interprets the info differently. Some are looking for outright performance, some mpg and some like to tinker.

When I did the pipe and pulled off the header it was noticeable that the inside diameter of the cylinder head port didn't match the header. So I ground it out to match. Was there a gain in power? I feel it did as I needed a 40 pilot jet to stop the deceleration popping w/o turning the kouba screw out beyond what they recommended (3.5 turns out). I was looking for more power and used the dj132 mainjet. With a pipe and jet kit power is gained why not wring the last bit out of it you can.

This klx forum has the most traffic and more to offer than the others... best regards in your modding

Cheers guys,

was just trolling to see if there was any "unspoken" mods, sounds like every one puts there ideas and info out there, which is wicked.

Thanks

I got a 250D pipe and smoothed down the weld inside the header. Not all the way becuase I wasn't sure of the welder's ability at the factory and didn't know how much penetration they got. I could of re welded from the outside to ensure this, don't know why I didn't

Next I took the baffle out of the end of the can. I then took a stock pipe from a Banshee and cut off the piece of the header that goes into the jug and welded it to a circular cut piece of steel with a large hole in the center of it. Bascically, a giant home made washer. I welded it all around and turned it down by hand with a dremel to make it smooth and tapered and welded it to the can.

Oh, the header was also from a 250D. I wanted to point that down becuase although the connecters are the same as the stock one, its about a quarter inch longer, and thats important. I also had to slightly modify the mounts on the can. I just cut them off and rewelded washers on.

The 250D's can has a larger pipe leading into it as well. It does open up some flow. I refuse to pay $500 on a pipe. That is ridiculous and the manufacters can go to hell.

any chance you can post a picture of your 2 different end caps (pulled out). I searched the forums, and see where you posted them before, but they are no longer good links.

thanks
