Default minor vandalism

parked 4 floors deep underground in a secure parking garage with very restricted access....i always park my motorcycle sideways towards the front of the single car space and park a small car in the same space together...i'm not even close to anything sticking outside or over the lines of the parking space...

somebody filed a complaint about how i park my motorcycle and car....i get a warning notice about it...i guess there is a "rule" that only one vehicle can be parked per space which has never been enforced for many years...coincidentally, somebody jammed something inside or broke my gas tank keyhole.....i highly doubt somebody would try to take gas from the smallest vehicle in the parking garage when there are plenty of cars without locks on the gas cap......i went ahead and moved the motorcycle, but running out of fuel and need to get it fixed...sucks...

Parking garages almost ALWAYS have security cameras... somewhere. If not, place one inside your vehicle for a few days.

Sounds like they were trying to put something (bad) in your gas...

*IF* they were trying to taint your fuel, I would be a little leery of putting a non-lockable tank on there. Just sayin'...

Its funny, if you park your bike in a space, people get mad when a lot is full. Now they get mad when you don't park in a space?

Was there other motorcycles around? Maybe somebody complained about "a motorcycle" and yours was the first one they saw?

Holy crap that is expensive for a stupid tumbler. Just buy and aftermarket tank with a locking cap.

i just called another shop...they told me it's about $150 to replace the tumbler, but told me i don't need to replace all three tumblers...they said, after they replace the gas tank tumbler for $150 they can call in a locksmith fix the tumbler to match my current key for about $25 to $30 extra...

Might be worth a little further investigating with the building management as to "who" filed the complaint. I might even allude to legal action if they don't give the information up, given that your bike was damaged. Likely the person who complained is also or connected to the perpetrator. Once they are confronted you'll know. May not be worth it, but if they do it once they'll strike again. The security camera idea that RGOERS mentioned is right on! BTW: Broken wrists usually get folks to rethinking what they should not do with other peoples stuff. Ya ya, I know, but wouldn't you like too?
Good luck with the repair.

get a hitch mount bike carrier for your vehicle if it has a receiver
park bike on the carrier, problem solved with one vehicle per spot

could even get one of those 5 inch hitch extensions that can raise the carrier up by 5 inches, but install upside down
then you may not even need a ramp to get on the carrier, if its floating over the ground couple inches attached to the truck what can they say then

Can you remove what is in the key hole with a broken key extractor? A locksmith might be able to do that also. A key extractor is like a barbed hook.
