Might sell my 06 klx
Bill Blue would probably buy the stock cylinder. Put the rest up here and see what that brings in.
You'll miss the KLX.
Soon after my first post I went back to the Cycle shop and put a deposit on a CRF for an April delivery. The salesman called today and said If I want the floor model it's mine otherwise they can't get any more till next years model is released and people were driving him nuts for the one there. I don't believe it was a BS sales pitch i've been going there for 18 years and never have been pressured to buy anything while looking or sitting on every bike in the shop.
The finance guy is awesome we were chatting about bikes and our similar hobbies like a bunch of school girls and getting way off track from the paperwork. So 75$ a month and prob. add another 25$ to insurance for a multiple bike policy. I opted for the four year extended insurance for 500$ since they consider it a street bike and anything non acident related is covered. If it blows a rod out the block or the electronics fail and cause other problems I'm covered. I don't think I needed it but it seemed like a good deal expecially being new to the market. So on top of all that I was told I could modify exhaust efi or whatever I wanted without voiding my warranty wich is a major concern since I can't not modify my toys. He also said I know what I'm doing so dont worry about the tune up or oil changes do it myself if I want.
We got the paperwork done and he says that they just hired a guy who's bringing a dyno and equip to the shop so I can run the KLX on it or the CRF for that matter. Thats beyond awesome I was looking into getting a wideband 02 meter to tune the KLX but I'm sure there equipment and expertise will be a bit more precise. So My plan is to keep the klx and mabey give it a sympathetic rebuild for now. I want to paint the frame to match the forks and paint the motor all silver. While it's apart grease everything fix seals piviot bearings and misc broken bits. I'll save up for cams and timing chain since the motor can stay in it along with touch ups and farkles.
I'm to lazy to post a pic now I'll have to do a photo shoot when it's parked along side the KLX. So to help fund the new bike I will need to sell some goodies. Any intrest in a stock cyl and piston or stock carb with free mods and rejet. Possibly an ATC200s project bike?

Like people have said a DS is a compromise between dirt and street. Now I can choose a bike that suits my needs for a particular day. Call it brand loyalty but it's just something different to ride. Would you buy two KLX's and set one up street and the other one dirt, I doubt it. Anyway I'm definatley keeping the KLX since by some huge miracle I got my review at work today and can now afford to own both.
I have owned Japanese, German, Italian, and even American bikes. All other things being equal, I would definitely buy a Honda because it's a Honda. Of all bikes I have owned, Hondas have been the most reliable, well-balanced, nicely-made, & cost-effective I have owned.
Don't get me wrong, I won't be trading the KLX in for a CRF, but if that new CRF was available at the time I was shopping, I would have given it some serious consideration based on my previous experience with Hondas.

my biggest bike mistakes were selling one to get another in the past
ive changed that now and will be hurting when registration comes around this year
but after all those its all good
nice to have variety

I finally got to drive the LRP. First off it's freezing out and there is some light snow flurries wich made the 5 mile ride home so much more fun. Other than that it's a smooth bike that actually starts and idles. It seemed to have a bit more power than the stock KLX but that was modded years ago so I'm just going off memory. I haven't hit any trails but I think it will be fine. Brakes are ok I don't know what all the complaining is about but whatever people are picky. And the tool kit will make you laugh. So to keep it short and not brag to much it's a keeper. Definatley feels less like a dirt bike and more like a backroad toy but keep in mind it's 7 years newer. I already modded the fender/plate holder because thats how I roll. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will try to do a mini comparison (aka Drag Race) in the near future.
