Default Metal Guard on Motocross boots

I believe most of the scratches on left left side case are from the little metal guard that is on the front of my fox boots. Does anyone know what the real purpose of that guard is? It's not covering the toes and only protects the front of the sole.. Was thinking i should remove them to keep the case nice longer.

I think it's there to keep the sole of the boot from delaminating when the toe of the boot hits the ground/rocks etc.

oh, that makes sense...guess it's not so necessary for dual sport riding then as the feet barely touch the ground.

Barely touch the ground? That sounds like road riding.
