Change oil&filter at 50-100 miles......repeat at ~500 miles.....beat the crap out of it.

This is not what's recommended by the manufacturer, right?

What about valve check?

Well the factory says first valve check at 7,500 miles....I think? ....... I put a 300 cc piston in mine at just over 1k miles and my valves were slightly outta spec (I adjusted them, expecting this ... thanks No Brakes) they havn't moved since......3.6k miles .......mostly high reving and hard riding in soft S. Fl. sand. So check your valves at 1k miles.

As Finger Mullet points out the manual does recommend the first valve check at 7,500 miles. Good advise to go ahead and check them around the 1,000 mile mark. Oil change is recommended at every 600 mile mark. Again, good advise to change more often,50-100 the first change then400-500 miles. The clutch and gears are sharing this same oil and changing often makes for better shifting and longer clutch life especially under off-road conditions. Make sure your oil is rated for 4 Stroke use. Oh, i just noticed that the manualonly says to fill the oil to the upper line on the sight glass with no mention that the bike should be in the level position.

Hey speaking of valves, I had mine checked at 2700 miles when I had the Muzzy and jetting done on the bike and they said they were right on specs. But I was wondering if some of you more experienced mechanics could answer a question. Sometimes in the right gear and the right rpm's I can hear a high pitched tapping or rattle, and if I shift up to the next gear it disappears, or sometimes it seems to catch up with itself and goes away. It seems to happen in 3rd gear doing 35-40 if I ride that range for a while. Any (as Paul Sr puts it) idears?
