With the bike on the side stand put your left foot on the peg and step up and over the seat.

May have to go that route just for the sake of grace. I'm looking at some of the different options offered. I appreciate y'all's input.
The kickstand is plenty sturdy to allow you to stand on a footpeg and swing your leg over. It will give you an extra 10" or so of height when mounting and dismounting. I do it all the time on my 250s when I have something strapped on the back.

I had the dealer order the lowering links today. I totally can't even do the standing on the pegs thing. I'm a fat girl and that just doesn't work lol. Getting adapted to things. So far my best thing is a series of bungees, straps, or nets to secure my backpack. (sounds dirty doesn't it?)

I you are not too fat to climb stairs, you can stand on one peg and swing your leg over. I think you should practice it before you lower the bike. Lowering links alone will make the bike handle differently, not badly, just diferently. If you just ride on the street, you will not notice it as the bike is new to you.

One warning about bungees... use straps and the net. Bungees alone are not very reliable. Hit a bump, and your load will stretch a bungee to its limit. Don't ask me how I know... it wasn't pretty!

for you guys with the top cases...do you ever take the case off? I would like to have one but would want easy on/off. Any ideas?

There are some ready made solutions out there but the seem pricey.
I was thinking about trying a trolling motor bracket with a seahorse 520 box.

I bought a cheap case from J C Whitney and it is an easy on easy off case. Looks pretty good too.

Anybody have one of these? I'm thinking something like this would be great for overnight touring trips, not so much offroading trips...
