Lost key
I have lost my key & need to hotwire the bike, anyone know which wires need to be connected? I have it turning over but wont start. HELP!
I will be back on forum later to check on any answers, thanks. |
Just have the dealer cut you a new key. My '07 came with 2 keys and I have 1 stashed for just such an emergency. Where's your second key? I believe the grey wire is an anti-hotwire device and needs to be disconnected. If you connect the other 2(red/black?), does the headlamp come on along with the neutral indicator? If so it should start.

It's a triple throw double pole switch (or double throw, triple pole, I can never remember the correct terminology, it's always the opposite of what I think it should be). At one point, I made an adapter an eliminated my key in preference for a simple toggle switch. Here is the connector map, which should provide the information you need:
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/381242366_gUZVE-L.jpg So to "hot wire" for "key on", connect white and brown together, red and red&white together, and disconnect black&yellow and black&white. However, if I recall, black&yellow and black&white always have a 100 Ohm resistor connecting them. I did this with a single toggle switch that was able to make all those connections at once when it was "on". Worked great. |
That sucks man. When I bought my bike, on the way home I had 2 more keys made at the key shop. When I brought the wife's bike home I did the same thing. I carry a spare key to our 2002 Camry in my wallet, and I have a combination lock box on the Dodge truck. I guess I just refuse to be stuck somewhere locked out or with out extra keys. Food for thought. ;)

Would really suck if you lost your key out in the bush and had to beat your ignition open with a rock.

I do the same thing with a key in my wallet for the car, but as for the bike I only use one key and the other only stays inside in case I would ever lose the other.

Way to go Watts'y. I don't think that the beating it worked out to well either.

The previous owner gave me one key and said he'd look for the other, but couldn't locate it.
I am going to get a couple spares cut. I was thinking of finding some Kawasaki key blanks for them to work with instead of the generic stuff. |
Thanks NB,now thieves can steal our bikes and ride em home.hahahahahaha
