Looks Like I Was Misled!
Well, after waiting for a week - the site info told me my tank, cap and petcock would be shipping in 4 to 7 days - I gave a call today to bring to their attention that today is the 9th day since I ordered by tank, cap and petcock and what was going on. "Oh, we're sorry, we are out of stock on that item, it is on backorder." was what I was told.
"How come you made me wait an entire week, informing me with a BS message that my parts were shipping and now when I call, suddenly they're out of stock?"
"Well we didn't know they were out of stock until we went to fill your order."
"So you waited a week to fill my order, now I have to wait until the parts come in?"
"Yes, that is correct." At this time, I'm doing all I can to be professional about the situation and trying not to reach through the phone, grab this person by the tonsils and drag them through the phone. I take a breath, release it slowly and calm down. "If you would like to wait for the parts to come in, we would be more than happy to do that."
"Does this mean I have to pay you now and get my parts later?" I'm still waiting for clarification on that - - - - once I do, I'll make a decision.
Sorry about giving out false information, but I was misled by the folks at Arizona Motorsports on this one. I'm a bit upset with their method of doing business and unfortunately some of you have orders pending because of my comments. That upsets me more than anything else.
Once I hear back from them on the backorder having to be pre-paid, I'll post their commentary.
I guess no one has the Acerbis tank in stock as BMWHD told us.
If the wait if a long one, I'll just cancel my order and wait for the black tanks to arrive!

It seems as though poor customer service is getting to be the norm..although your situation sounds like one of the worst. If you haven't read my post, I was told by John at Starcycle that they had the Muzzy in stock and ready to ship. I paid for it with my debit card and less than 2 hours later I get an email saying "sorry, we didn't have one in stock". Now I'm waiting for the money to be put back into my account. Bunch of BS as far as I'm concerned.

Got a call this evening informing me that Acerbis has dropped the petcock number from their product line.
Was also informed that my credit card was billed at the time my order was placed. I asked him why and was told that's the way they do business. I told him I thought that was kind of like stealing someone's money. He was not happy with the comment - I didn't care at that time. I then cancelled my order.
Sure do wish there were more folks like Fred of Arrowhead Motorsports around. Old Fred has parts to you almost before you order thme. Guess I'm spoiled with decent customer service.
Guess this is just the effects of more "outsourcing".

Well, I was afraid of that. I'd been dealing with Acerbis directly and was repeatedly told that 12 tanks are headed for the US but have been delayed until May.
The only way the Acerbis situation is going to improve is to bombard them with email and phone call requests to run a new batch of tanks.
The aftermarket parts suppliers in Europe such as Acerbis and CRD have ramped down due to Kawasaki having dropped the KLX300 over there and they don't yet understand what the KLX250S is and what the potential is in the US for parts sales. I imagine they'll figure it out eventually but it will take them a while to ramp back up.

I now ask if they can verify that the part exists to be distibuted. Sometimes they can tell me right then other times I have to call the next day to let their order have time to process.
this has greatly reduced my letdown stress.

I like the little Kawasaki but, that 1.9 Gallon tank just will not work for me. I looked one over pretty good yesterday trying to find a way to attach some 1L camp fuel bottles to it. I thought maybe I could attach them to the front part of the frame but, no joy. Fuel on the on the rear fender will break the frame so, no joy again. The only thing I could identify was replacing the rear foot rests with a fuel carrier of my own design but, that would only get 1L on each side which isn't enough.
I really like this little motorcycle and can see a lot of potential with a 300cc upgrade kit and aftermarket exhaust but, the cost of getting enough fuel on board is excessive. Puttering around town to the local places is a don't care because gas in almost always within about 10 miles. However, some stretches in rural New Mexico exceed the 65MPG * 1.9 gallon fuel supply.
When the aftermarket guys figure things out, people like myself will buy this motorcycle and spend a good bit of money on it in upgrades. Until then, it seems like the BMF F650 is a cost effective option. Sure its not as light or dirt worthy but, you can add Touratech options until you are financially broke if you want to from companies that have good quality parts and accessories and good customer service.

Fitting the IMS tank is really not too bad - I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The hardest part is probably disconnecting the wiring from the tail section and rerouting the cabling. If you think that wouldn't be too bad, you might consider it. You will need to replace the stock fan with something smaller.

That looks sweet. What size Pelican case is that? I assume those are the 1L fuel bottles and not the smaller ones.
I read somewhere about a guy that put a 1.1 gallon tank on the rear fender rack and over stressed it so, I guess I'm a little over sensitive to the weight back there. Another 2L of gas though sure would be sweet.

I like the looks of that IMS tank but, they aren't generally available in the US. They also seem sort of expensive at about $300 once you get the petcock and any other odds and ends you need. This is something Kawasaki should fix at the factory.
I am also worried about heat build up. Those little fans didn't sound like they would hold up to me. With some dust and dirt, or one good monsoon rain, would they still work properly? Arizona gets really hot and I will spend some time in bumper to bumper grid lock traffic so, I am concerned about modifying the factory radiator heat dissipation parts.
