Default Looking for a dedicated woods bike....

Any of you guys ever ride a 2013+ ktm 350 sxf?

Apparently the 2013+ are the best years.

Thoughts as a woods bike?

I could go get a crf450 or similar but I'm concerned the 450 will be too much in the tight stuff..yes I know it's all about throttle etc but it IS a big bike

The 350 is a great bike. 250 feel with 450 like power. Engine is very smooth with a linear Powerband. Early Ktm's did has some big end rod bearing issues but this was corrected by 2013 with a plain bearing like in autos. I can't comment on how it is in the woods as my 15 never saw any but I bet it would be a woods weapon.

I went with the other flavor.

My woods weapon is a kdx 220 plated.

The sxf is hotter out of the gate then a exc but many guys use them for woods. Little gearing change , suspension tweak and your good.

Yeah, the EXC is my first choice, but there's nothing wrong with the SXF at all. The engine size keeps the power delivery reasonable for off road. One of the main things I don't like about MX'ers for off road is the 19" rear wheel. I'm an 18" wheel guy, but it's not the end of the world at all.

I wanted the EXC also but so hard to find used, and the 2017 is 13700$ out the door. Hard price to take when bouncing it off a tree or 2 lol.

The sxf (2013) is significantly less. Figured I can keep my KLX (paid for) and buy a mint sxf for less than a new EXC

If new ends up being a option check out the 17 Husqvarna FX350. Its like the best of both worlds.

I ride with a bunch of guys up near Bancroft. Over the years, they have brought out everything (MX450, MX250, MX125, Husky, GasGas, KTM - you name it plus all the Jap bikes) and they're all good and fun. The only consensus seems to be that they have all eventually moved to two strokes (I ride a KDX200 with these guys).

KDX200/220 were badly outdated by the time they stopped selling them a dozen years ago. There are far better options
