I'm in the process of trying to fit a larger tank, a TM36 and higher bars into 2007 KLX. Nothing new there, has been done many time before.
And as the ones before me have noticed, at some point the stock throttle cables become too short.

Motion Pro can make custom length cables but they need measurements of the stock cable. I don't feel like ripping mine out just to measure it.

Does anyone happen to have a spare stock 2006-07 throttle pull cable at hand they could measure?

The annoying thing is that MP has already in the past made longer throttle cables for us but for "cable with low sales volume" they don't save the measurements. Meaning every time we order these cables they need the same measurements.

That may be a bit goofy on their part since they also sell stock length cables for our bikes from what I recall seeing on their site. Maybe I've got it wrong?

 

At least currently they only list the KLX300 and the 08-> 250S/SF, no 06 - 07 250

The really goofy part is that they don't keep the measurements for custom cables they've made before.

Not everybody is going to want the same length "longer cable". What they should do is tell you how long the stock one is and ask how much longer you want the replacement to be. I would think they could work something out. Newparts has the way to do it , just start at one end and hold a piece of string to the stocker all the way to the other end. Measure the string and you have the stock length .

Right. And that's how they do it, except they don't keep the measurements of the stock cable.

I don't feel the love to take the tank off (yet again) just to measure the stock cable.

OK sorry I mis-read another post on here that made me think they had the stockers on the shelf. Hey ,, when the guy at Motion pro asks you "how long you want it", act dumb and say ....Uh well..... I want it quite a while, I'm putting it on my motorcycle, and I want to leave it there.

Just got off the phone (again) with guys at MotionPro.

To reiterate, they don't keep the 2006 - 2007 KLX throttle cable specs in file, so every time someone needs a custom cable that some must either submit detailed specs of the stock cable or send them a stock to measure.

I measured the stock and made them a drawing of it. To save the next guy the trouble of pulling the old cable out and draw it up, here's what I gave them.
