Default Local MX track - practice day

I visited the local MX track on Sunday to do some practice laps. I was also testing out a new tire - Michelin Star Cross S12XC, 140/80-18.

Before:

After:

Seems like a really nice tire, I wish it was DOT. Seems like all the really good ones are not.

My bike in off-road trim: no headlight, or tail light/license plate, a 9 minute convsersion.

Getting out to the track also gave me my first opportunity to use my fancy new camera for some MX action shots - I thought you guys might enjoy these. That day wasn't the best for shooting because there were only about 10 people at the track, so not a lot of folks, and only 3 or 4 were on the track at a time. Was great for riding, but not for shooting. I got a few, though. But none of me, of course, at least not until they make a camera that shoots itself. I was there alone, so no one to take my picture.

Overall it was a good day. Pretty chilly and damp, spitting rain on and off a little bit. The dirt was perfect, a little soft in a few places, but no dust and great traction. Really happy with the new Michelin.

Those knobbies look like they have a slight built in cup, I bet that hooks up pretty good. And forget the DOT stamp, just get a yellow or whatever color is put on a DOT tire and mark it with a metal paint pen.

Yes, they are cupped a little bit, I guess that's where the "star" comes from in the name, instead of being square, they are sort've 4-pointed star shaped. Actually, it was not my first choice in tire, but it is what the local Cycle Gear had in stock so I thought I'd give it a try. Glad I did.
