That is not the head gasket. It is the valve cover gasket, and the 09 had a bad run of them. Just order another or if your bike is on warranty they should cover it. Anyhow when you do your first valve check change it out. It is a bugger to get the old one back on, a new one goes on nicely.

Take your bike back to the dealer to warranty the problem.

If your dealer won't honor it, write Kawi direct. They sent me a check for the cost of the repair. If you need a copy of the letter I sent PM me.

Do it yourself. Use just a smear of gasket sealer in the moons. Remember proper torque specs; don't squeeze it to death.

My '09 is leaking too. Only had 1000 miles on it when it started. I smeared some black RTV on the outside of it which slowed the leak down quite a bit. It's not enough to bother me anymore.

You have to change the gasket to fix it. The rubber is flawed on the stock one. Get a new one or you will be cussing yourself later.

Now red...don't get crazy here. A little RTV silicon sealer will fix anything.

Yeah, Kawasaki should be covering all those '09 leaking valve cover gaskets at no charge, and it sounds like some have pursued it to the point of getting some money back or at least a new gasket.
