KX450F rear fender on with pics
OK. Its not on my bike, but on my buddy's. Heres the story. My friends Jay, Brian andI went to the Kawi dealer about a month ago to try and get Brian a deal on the first 09 klx they get in. He will get the first one. Anyways, my friend Jay (who has an 06 klx)and I were over by the fenders and there happened to be an 07 kx450f parked next to them.
Jay liked the look of the kx450 rear(someone had street legalized it so it had a tail light etc) and i told him it was a bitch to try and fit thaton the klx, and actually make that fender look good on the back of our bikes. I told him if he bought a fender for one, and made it look halfway decent on his klx, I would buy him an edge tail light. Well he took me up on the offer and walked out of the showroom with a new acerbis kx450f rear fender.
That weekend he ripped the stock fender off the back. Made some rough cuts on the kx450 fender and did a dry fit. It was obviuos the klx's subframe was not made for a "real" mx rear fender. It took him about two weeks to convince himself to cut the subframe. He didn't just cut it off where it start to bends down towards the rear, he cut it about an inch or two behind the seat! He had a plan though. He had bent up and welded a new subframe (you shoulda seen the jig he made, i wish i had a pic of that), to match the new fender perfect! Looked great in my eyes, so I went ahead and ordered the edge tail light for him. Anyways, he finally put it all back together tonight and here are the pics....
Some pics of the new sub frame he made (right after install and freshpaint)
