KX250F now has fuel injection, perhaps the KLX is not far behind?
Obviously. When i used the qualifier Glorified along with the words "little more than" when describing throttle body injection as an electric carb i figured most members of this board would have the reading comprehension to realize my comment was facetious and not to be taken literally, sadly that does not seem to be the case.
Glad the experts are here to set the record straight.
Wow, a lot of heated discussions!
<quote> Wasn't there a forum member working on a FI conversion kit?</quote>
It's me, except that I was not really working on a conversion kit. I was doing development and experimental work. For the recall:
https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=33129
The possible outcome is still not defined at this stage. For now, I've ridden my FI bike over 2500km, mostly in trails. It works good in all situations I encountered and I am very happy with it.
As an experimented designer of engine electronics (ahem... humility put aside), I can tell that most of the arguments and counter arguments expressed here are true. Here are my preferred ones:
- FI can make more hp with current EPA requirements;
- Properly tuned carb will make as much hp as FI if there is no emission reg;
- FI is costly and the KLX as we know it (affordable/reliable) could not exist with FI;
- Notwithstanding the above, I think FI will become mainstream even for basic DS/dirt bikes, as it will become cheaper over time.
There are also a lot of minor advantages to FI for dirt bikes that have not been mentioned:
- No flooding when you lay the bike down;
- No risk of dumping a full tank of gas in the crankcase if you forget to close the fuel valve when parked;
- No risk of dirt accumulating in vent lines;
- A dirty air filter is compensated for by the ecu (at least in my design). You loose power, but the proper A/F is maintained;
- More tolerant to water and other impurities in fuel;
- Pushbutton selection of agressive or economical fuel curves, that the user selects depending on the riding situation;
-...
you name it.
I'm sure somebody could find as many cons as there are pros above. For my part, I prefer FI to carb firstly because I know very little about jetting

Its hard to tell since this post is so vapid, inane and vacuous.
Now now, let's play nice kids
fa·ce·tious/fəˈsēSHəs/Adjective: Treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant.
ob·sti·nate/ˈäbstənit/Adjective: Stubbornly refusing to change one's opinion or action, despite attempts to persuade one to do so.
ob·tuse/əbˈt(y)o͞os/Adjective: Annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand.
vap·id/ˈvapid/Adjective: Offering nothing that is stimulating or challenging
in·ane/iˈnān/Adjective: Silly; stupid; not significant.
vac·u·ous/ˈvakyo͞oəs/Adjective: Having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless
LOL - well I've certainly got a better grasp for the meanings of the words now. I shall consider these my 6 words of the day...

Huh, funny this sarcastic comment comes from the one person who has posted on this thread about 15 times trying to tell everyone why they are wrong.
apples to oranges, apples to oranges, apples to oranges
Come on, say it one more time

Comparing 30+ year old carbed engines to modern FI engines is not a valid comparison.
My 2006 Jeep makes more whorespower than my 1951 ******. OMG FI FTW !!!
Also, nice straw man argument. Rather than debate the facts you choose to attack my position on the relative merits of others comparisons.
