Default Kx125 fork swap

Just if anyone cares, I just put kx125 forks into the klx250s 2009 model.

The 1993 model just slips straight into the klx triples. The axle is same diameter but different fitting so it is best to source a whole front end.

I'm sure the triples are lighter too, but I am whacking them on my kle500 with the old klx forks.

Used a klx300 rear dogbone (117mm vs 119.5mm) on the rear shock linkage to make ride height balanced to front, but you could do without it if you dropped the forks through an inch.

Will post pics when I get to it. - NOW WITH PICS!!!

My bike! - FMF exhaust & headers, B&B Bashplate, IMS pegs, Acerbis LED taillight, Acrebis Tank - & of course my kx forks...

Goona change the rim - bit shagged this one... but note the full floating disc

Very interesting. I presume you're doing that because the kx125's springs are not as soft?

Ah no...the >2009 klx has reduced travel compared to prior versions - I want my +2 inches travel back and ground clearance please...

Also full rebound and compression adjustment and far better/adjustable shim stack in the cartridge - in fact that model kx fork was one of the best off the showroom setups made for a bike. Brake disc is full floating as well...

You can remove a spacer in the stock klx forks to get back travel, but it will not come close to the performance of these kx forks. I got the full front end off ebay for only $400 AU delivered.....cant complain.

WOW. Thanks for that. Very enlightening. I just sprung today for a brand new KLX250S 2010 model and have to admit to finding the front forks quite soft. Having not taken it out jumping or anything yet, I obviously have not idea of its performance. I figured I would need to get it resprung with better springs at some stage, but your idea may be a better plan.

I got a pair of KX250 forks hella cheap from a guy in the USA, but postage was pretty huge. I think I paid around $60 for the forks themselves, and $120 or more in postage!

One of the best setups I've seen so far was in that recent post on adv rider in the klx thread by the trev.
Not accustomed to the rally style dash but its still a bitchin' bike.
Sure helps to see pics of these terrific set ups guys...
