Default KLX's

So,

I bought a new KLX250 this weekend thanks to one of the members on this forum!

I'm already starting to order some stuff to farkle it out. Which leads me to a few questions for you fine folks.

I'm led to believe that the KLX250, and KLX 300 frames are virtually identical.
Which means we have the option to swap gas tanks to and fro.

What I'm wondering if anyone on here has a KLX400? And if the KLX 400 gas tank would work on a KLX250. The KLX400 has a safari tank available, It's a monster 7.4 Gallon. I'm prepping this KLX for a Round the World ride.
So the more fuel the merrier!

A member who used to be active, redpillar, mentioned the giant acerbis tank for the KLX650 could be made to fit the KLX250 with some work. I think you should find a KLX400 tank and see what can be done.

Round the World on a KLX250. Damn. You go dude!

KLX400 = DRz400 rebadged not a likely fit.

Yea I knew it was a rebadged bike, the frame rails look similar, and then just looking at photos of the tanks, and where the seats mount also look similar.

I've emailed Safari tanks, A couple times to see if they would be making one for our bikes, but it doesn't sound like they ever will. I

It isn't a perimeter style frame.

I think the KLX, upped to a 330 or 351, would make a great RTW bike!
There are not too many places, except the US and the Autobahn, where you really need to go faster than the KLX can.
If it were me, I would pull a Moto-mule to unload the bike and make it easier to ride trail, while I was going RTW.
FWIW, I'll try fitting my Acerbis 650R tank on the 250 again. I can't remember what about it doesn't work.
Looking forward to the RTW build/farkle thread...hint, hint.
