Question KLX351 Engine Rebuild

I done messed up my engine case and I need an engine rebuild methinks. I can pay for it to be done but it’ll probably cost more than the bike is/was worth. I can give up and part her out. OR, I can try to rebuild that engine myself. I can follow instructions well enough to install the BB 351 kit but what difficulty rating am I looking at here with a complete engine rebuild? I’d appreciate any insights and resources for said engine rebuild. \m/

Can you provide more info about what happened to you current engine? Any photos of the damage?

Sure yeah. Basically, I installed a kickstarter kit and in trying to kick her over I cracked something on the inside of the case. It’s always been hard to kick over and I think the repeated hard kicks eventually wore thing down. This video should show what I’m talking about:

Sadly, I'm pretty sure you're F'd,
It looks like it has broken the case half, which means you would need to locate another engine(cases or complete), and either transfer your parts to the new cases or put the 351 kit on the donor.
When the rod bearing hammered out on my '12, I had to split the cases to replace the crank.
The only 'special' tool I made was a 2-1/2"PVC union that I trimmed notches to clear obstructions on the case so that I could use it to put the crank back in.
I ended up not needing it because I was able to install the crank bearings on the crank by freezing the crank and heating the bearings in a 250°F oven.
You will need to do the same thing when it's time to put the crank into each case half. Put the crank/w bearings installed in the freezer, and use a heat gun or torch to heat the case half.
It's tedious, but doable with basic tools and a torque wrench.

Thanks for the great reply. That’s encouraging to know that I wouldn’t need any special tools. Now, if there are any resources available online to walk me through what I’m doing, I’m game to give it a shot. Otherwise, I think selling/parting out may be my next step.
