Default KLX300 CDI

I'm going to experiment with changing the CDI box and am wondering....... Will I need to run a different plug when I change it?

I was just wondering why you would try this seems it would have about the same unit. Have you heard of it being a better performer? I'm not saying you shouldn't try it just curious what made you think of it.
I would guess you would use the same plug as a KLX 300 uses as long as its the same size and length into the head.
Let us no if you notice any difference.

Apparently this KLX300 CDI mod is one of the first things that the guys in Japan do to their D-Tracker KLX250S's.
I can't wait to hear the results of this... [sm=icon_rock.gif]

Does anyone know where I can get a KLX300 wiring diagram online? If I had that along with my 250S diagram I believe that I could solve the adapter mystery.

You could try going over to Thumper Talk.com and ask one of the guys in the KLX form to scan and post that page from the 300R maintenance manual. I purchased a CDI from a 1997 KLX 250SR. That bike is almost identical to the 250S and supposedly has the same timing as the 300R. I've just been so busy with work I haven't had time to rig up a harness and try it out...[]

I just made that post in ThumperTalk this morning...

Also, I know a Japanese girl here at work who is going to try and translate... She says the images (on that wiring diagram) are all referring to color, not function... Great! This should be easy, I'll keep you posted.

Can't wait to hear your report - and just when I thought I was done with mods. Where'd you get your CDI? Also, there are aftermarket suppliers for CDI's that claim a more aggressive profile than stock - does anyone know if there is an aftermarket unit for the KLX300R?
