couldn't find a shinko 705 that fit the front....but, i changed the rear before i needed the front, so i ended up with non-matching front the rear....i'm waiting for the tires to wear out, so i can go with regular 110 front and size wider to 140 rear...i'll probably just try out the bridgestone bt-39 tires next time...

 

yeah I was looking at the 705 but realized there was no option for the front tire, I am definitely looking to get the 244s, gonna go with the 3.00 in the front but I'm still not sure if I want to do the 4.60 or the 5.10 in the rear. The pictures I've posted are 5.10 in the rear and the guy that posted them said it feels that the rear has gotten a little taller with the 5.10. That being the case I'm leaning towards the 4.60 for the rear because I am a short guy and would rather be closer to the ground for that reason.

 

I honestly think that the 4.60 is going to be too narrow to properly fit on the rear rim. I have the 5.10 on the back and it's just the right size. 5.10 translates to 130 mm which is the stock rear tire size for the SF. Any narrower and you'll have the edges of the rim exposed, and the tire won't develop a proper radiussed profile.

Consider lowering links if you want reduced ride height.

 

I was unsure what the sizes converted to, thank you for clarifying that. I will probably go with the 5.10 then and see how it feels then.
Another thing, when changing your first set of tires, do you recommend replacing the tubes as well?

 

Funny thing about tire widths is that they rarely exactly match the stated number, whether imperial or metric. One manufacturers 180 may be another's 190 etc. So be ware of that.
Generally however there are 25.4 mm in 1 inch so a 5.10 therefore equals 130 while a 4.60 is somewhere between a 110 & 120.
Tubes can generally be reused subject to visual inspection. If there is any question, you can inflate the tube and submerge it in a bathtub to look for leaks.

 

Good info man, thanks. This will be the bikes first new set of shoes, bikes at about 6600 right now and the stock rear tire is pretty much spent. Being a 2009 was the only reason I was questioning the tubes but every time I check the tire pressures they haven't really moved so I feel that they are still good as far as I know, I will know better once I get the new tires coming. Thanks for the info and advice man.

 

I love my tires (see signature). They're 70 street /30 dirt. Good at highway speeds and handle great. They're also lighter than most others. Not sure about the sizing availability for a SF.

 

They look like a nice tire but I don't see them available in the sizes I need

 

If you want dirt tires it would probably be best to get some S rims, 17" dirt tires aren't really all that common..

 

So I caved in last week, found the full fmf exhaust on ebay for $412. I am completely satisfied, just going to wait until it warms up a bit to do the jet kit but I did just take it for a ride with the exhaust and I am impressed!
