Default KLX250SF motard

Hey guys... new to the forum and new 250SF motard owner.

Hopefully you can help. I am unfamiliar and don't trust the IRC Road Winner tires stock on this bike, but if they are like most stock tires then they need to go.

Are the IRC tires any good? They are the same exact tires front and rear as the Ninja 250R.

Any suggestions as to replacement tires that will be good and sticky for lean angle?

I just picked up my SF last Saturday. I've only got 20 miles on her now, but in that first 20 I've gone almost to the edge of the rear tire. IMHO I don't think there is anything wrong with the IRC tires. I say ride the snot out of it.

I have already started the planning process to do the 351 kit, FMF exhaust, etc. I might also do the FCR carb. She needs more ponies and needs them bad. Although it's still a fun little bike stock.

Michelin pilots are sticky as F@#& but cost $$$$.

Try these, they are the stickiest. Control tyres for motard racing in Australia. Some compounds are DOT legal.

Haha... I am also looking to do the 351 kit, full exhaust, and the overbored carb with prob a stage 2 jetting, remove the exhaust air injection, and put the high flow snorkel and K&N in the airbox. Should really waken her up. I am thinking of going with the FMF header and the Two Bros Carbon can to ogo good with all the black plastic.

Yeah... I have about 30 miles on mine and have about 1/2" of unused edge still... I got a little slide off the rear but I am attributing it to still having some mold release on the tires and not fully scuffed in yet. But I am still looking at either the michelin Pilot Activ or the Pirelli Sport Demon 110 front and perhaps 140 or 150 rear. According to some websites I looked at, a 4" rear rim is the upper limit of a 130 tire... so I plan to maybe go 140 or 150. Still unsure.

I know on the older bikes, the rear tire can go up to 150, but you have to use a longer chain to bring the rear wheel further back in the swingarm, and some people even had to offset the spokes to one side to clear the chain. Once you go 150, the tire market for good street tires opens up a lot more options. Over here in Japan, they come with a 4.25 rear wheel for the motard version, which will hold a 150 just fine.

Well, after some closer looking at the bike, here is the definitive answer. A 150 tire WILL NOT fit. It would only leave a few millimeters of space to the right side of the swingarm... not enough room to take into account sidewall flex.

So, it seems that physically only a 140 rear tire will fit the swingarm with enough room to spare on the right side swingarm. There is plenty of room to the chain side and to the front, so the wheel will not have to be moved rearward.

Maybe they were offsetting to the chain side to clear the swingarm? I know they do it here, but my japanese is not good enough to get the clear answer.

Had mine about a month and a half. With the stock tires I am able to pull away from the other motards and sport bikes I ride with. When we get to a straight away this all changes though! I would not race or get too crazy on a track but I'd run em till they are toast.
