Default KLX250S vs DT230LC

Hey Mav, whatever happened to the DT230LC and did you ever consider getting one over the KLX? That bike being a street-legal 2 stroke always took my fancy.

I think most guys on this subforum are from the USA. The DT230 is a 2 stroke and only offered in Australia where Eco-****'s are apparently not nearly as powerful.

I think a 2 stroke would be fun on the street. I first learned ot ride on an old Yamaha 125 2 stroke dual purpose machine one weekend at a friend's place.

No mate to be honest I just wanted the KLX so I went and bought one, Yammie looks a bit dated but is more than likely a great bike. I must admit I like 2 strokes but never really would have considered one because I do a lot of on road and the 4 stroke is more suitable for road work but still works good off road, gets better fuel economy, doesn't need extra oil added, doesn't blow smoke after being lugged a while etc etc

Thanks Mav,

My first bike I owned was a 1985 DT125LC and it did 20km/l (60mpg) and got around 200 km (125miles) per tank. All I know is that it kicked XT125 and XL125's butt. The first year I did 16 000km (10 000 miles) on it and made one 500km (350mile) trip on it. I loved the bike.

I moved to the US in 1998 about the same time they banned 2 stroke street bikes. Yeah, the eco-***** have whacky agendas here in the US considering that street-legal 2 strokes made up less than 0.01% of bike sales yet the smog spewing trucks heading up I35 are unaffected. In a year one truck puts out more smog than all the bikes combined!

Yeah, I miss the DT's, the RZ's, etc.

A mate of mine had an RD350 (liquid cooled, white with blue stripes), man I loved riding that thing was just soooo much fun. I love the 2 stroke powerband. I had a friend on the back of it one day got it up to 3rd gear before I allowed it to get into powerband and when it did the front wheel just came up all by itself, the tin top I was overtaking no doubt said [sm=wtf.gif]
