Default KLX250 torque and power

Hi

looking to replace my stolen Puzey XTR4.
It had KLX300 clone engine by Loncin (36mm Keihin OKO carb, 28bhp at 8,500 and 28Nm of torque at 7500rpm, 130kg weight with fluids except petrol)
I`ve been considering a late model KLX250 which comes with fuel injection here in the UK, looking at the specs i see it has 22bhp and 25Nm of torque, 138Kg as standard.
The one i am looking at has had the rev-limiter mod done which restricted speed in the top two gears. It is fitted with a Delkevic exhaust but the owner does not know whether the ECU has been re-mapped since.
How much do these mods make to the standard output and am i going to find it a bit `lacking` after my Puzey?

Cheers

Quick reply here about mods and output. While I was pondering a big bore kit for my 2010, I ran across quite a few threads on this site comparing the gains. You might want to search those threads to see if you can find an answer to your question. Just a thought.

13t front sprocket helps off-road.

Fantic 250 Casa worth a look.

Hi.
I`ve actually got a Fantic Casy in my Ebay watch list at the moment and went to look at a Gasgas Cammy last weekend, they are very similar machines.

I bought a 2012 250S (EFI) a couple of weeks ago.
Despite an aftermarket exhaust and the airbox lid removed it does seem lacking in torque and power.
It`s got a 13t front, 42 rear BUT a tall MT43 which probably takes the gearing back up to standard.
It`s obviously very over-geared as standard if it can go as fast in 5th as 6th (65mph!), but compared to my previous 300cc single (which was SO much quieter as well) this seems hard work.
It`s only done 3000 miles so hardly warn out yet!
Seriously considering an AHL299 kit off Ebay.
Am i right in saying that the EFI will `adjust itself` with the 299 kit like it does for exhaust and intake changes?

Try the mod to the wiring by the clutch lever first. Enables the bike to rev out in the higher gears.

Hi.
That`s been done by the previous owner already.
The Marcelino cam mod sounds the way to go next. As standard it seems to be very `rev orientated` which changing the valve timing would alter (The Puzey pulled like a tractor from way down by comparison)

Cheers

Saw your post in ADVrider about the 300 kit. I don't know if it would work, I don't think jetting on the carbed bikes is major in change so maybe the EFI might handle it. Don't know how you will know until you - or someone with EFI bike - try it. Sorry to not be of much help.

The MCM does add power across the range, but nothing like a 50cc increase in displacement will. Worth doing, because it was originally done on a Euro EFI bike and pulled good power. But I'd be doing the deep digging and see if more can be learned about the 300 set up. It would probably cost a fortune and a question if it would work, but if the new KLX300 has EFI use the parts from it. Might be only a different ECU or might be the injector body and all. Worth researching.

Hi.
Thanks for that.
I don`t know the EFI systems adaptability to engine capacity changes but i suppose someone out there does, it obviously deals with exhaust and intake changes.
I wonder if at only 3000 miles done my engine might free up more with time.
I`m up to page 38 of 101 of Marcelinos cam timing mod!
Cheers
