Hey all,

I recently just bought a second hand KLX250-H5 2003. And after taking it out for my first ever ride, i managed to bend my gear lever. (can fall) And i've gone into the local bike shop and got my self a new one. Trouble is it doesn't seem to sit on nice and snug. There is play up and down before selecting, and left to right on the spline.

Am i guessing correct that the bike shop has maybe ordered the wrong part? As a rookie to the bike world, much help will be needed from you guys.

It sure sounds like you got almost the right one, don't use it. You can heat your old one with a torch and bend it back enough to use? It won't be as strong as before but would be better than the wrong one which could mess up your splines. Or you could get the correct one from a parts dealer who is more knowledgeable or you can cut your old one and the new one and weld the spline part of the old one to the shifter part of the new one, alot of work but I've done it to keep riding many times.

I've had a closer look at my bike and done a bit of research over the net. Sadly before joining the form. When i bought the bike i was told it was a KLX250R, but looking at the plates just now i've seen that it is a KLX250H. Which would explain why the new one wouldn't fit the way it should. So i've takin it bake to the shop and they'll see if they can replace it for me, if not i'll get another new one. This time the correct one.

But i do like the idea of reshapping the old one, or welding bits together. Thanks again, will let you know how it goes.
