KLX-less in Calgary
It's been awesome hanging out here and getting to know all you other KLX'ers from around the world, but I sold my little KLX earlier this week so I'll be movin' on.
Sold it for more than I paid 2 years & 14,000km (9000mi) ago to the first looker, and I'm still turning away lots of callers. There is definitely a growing interest in this genre of bike!
Pretty sure it'll be a DR650 I settle on although the XR & KLR are also within the range of possibilities too.
Learned a lot from the KLX and from you folks; thank you!

If you are after an adventurer bike, test ride a Husqvarna TR650 Terra. I haven't looked back. It soaks up the highway kilometres with ease, has awesome brakes and looks & sounds great. I'm keeping my KLX for off-roading as it's lighter.

Thanks guys. That Husky is definitely worth a look as is the BMW G650X series. Both are a bit more money than I am comfortable bashing around in the bush on; that's a fear I'd need to overcome.
Maybe you could find a nice KLX650 for the best of both worlds. But they are getting old and harder to find. Too bad Kawi dropped it in favor of the KLR, but the KLR sold and the KLX didn't.
Good luck and keep us posted on whatever the new ride is going to be.

Here’s my ‘new’ rig! It’s pictured here loaded up and ready to haul 300km (200mi) home …

It’s a BMW G650x powered by a 652cc dry-sump Rotax single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled DOHC. It makes 53 hp & 45 ft.lbs at 7000 & 5250 RPM respectively. Weighs in at ~320lbs. Got it with 2700km (1600mi) on the clock. This one doesn’t have the optional ABS which is just fine with me.
Haven’t given it a proper workout yet but first impressions are:
• Very tall seat height, on par with an XR650
• Well-calibrated fuel injection. No stumbles, flat-spots, or temperature related issues
• Nice useable power delivery across the rev range (although a little more torque low down would be nice)
• Engine’s little vibey until revs build
• Strong brakes
• NIMBLE! Falls into corners just a tad at 1st gear speeds but becomes neutral & precise at higher speeds. Rock solid at speeds over 100kmh (60mph).
• Adjustable suspension with similar travel to the KLXs but more plush than the KLXsf. Tends to nosedive on hard braking. Haven’t tried any adjustments yet.
• Disappointed it has no tach from the factory, and it’s only a 5-speed (although the gearing spread *seems* nicely arranged so far)
• Oil changes look like they’re gonna be like more work than neccessary
I am going to try to get some trail time on it this weekend; can’t wait!
