KLX Cold Blooded
#31
I read this on a thread somewhere but I can remember where, but it works for me every time. Just lean the bike way over to one side hold for a few seconds and then the other side and hold for a few seconds, then rock back and forth a few times. I guess it does the same thing as the old ticklers on Bing carbs and allows (floods) gas into the throat of the carb. The first time my bike sat for a while in cold weather I had to remove the seat and air filter and spray gas into the carb before it started. Now with this new technique it starts right up, so far every time. You might try and see if it works for you it won't cost you anything but a minute of your time.

Ok, it was 20'F out this morning. Here's what I did.
1. Ran the gas out of the carb last night before shutting it down.
2. This morning, turned on the gas...
3. Turned the key on...
4. Straddled the bike...
5. Twisted the throttle exactly three times...
6. Put my left hand on the choke but left it in...
7. Engaged the starter button for about 2 seconds, then slowly pulled the choke out while the starter was engaged...
8. When the choke got about 3/4 of the way out, it started right up!!!!
The whole process took about 15 seconds. MUCHO better than a couple of days ago.
It seems I have found the answer. I must have flooded it last time with too much choke. It probably wouldn't start because of the flooding not because of the cold.

cold starting
yea, deej is right, unless you have a pumper carb, twisting the throttle doesn't do anything....glad you got it!.. just a side note..the "cold" isn't just a problem either.....i had a hard time getting mine started late last summer, when the bike sat for a couple weeks without being started....maybe its trying to tell me something...RIDE ME..RIDE ME!!!...lol.....
