My third post of this and I apologize, but I hate to hear of anyone wasting cam drives unnecessarily.

I got the tensioners cut and here's what the kit looks like.

Includes what you see, a couple of laser cut gaskets, fasteners, ball end allen wrench, and a couple of good quality stickers.

I'm not deadset on the price because I don't know the cost of the bodies to me yet. I'll be firm by early next week. No more than $35, but I don't quite know yet. I'm probably going to upsize the stickers a bit due to the nature of the kind of bike, big stickers for off roaders.

Feel free to PM me for more information.

To set up an order PM or preferably email me. You can do so by clicking on my name - klx678 and picking email if it's there or PM if not.

I have several weeks on Mark's tensioner in my KLX now. Last weekend I rode a good deal of very challenging off road with lots of on again/off again throttle with plenty of WOT and low rev lugging. The cam chain is totally quiet throughout the rev range. The nice thing is that I know the cam chain is right where it's supposed to be as far as tension goes...all the time.

Tensioner ordered, money sent. I can't wait to replace the POS Kawi unit that is in there right now - sounds like the damn cam chain is gonna cut right through the block sometimes!
Mark, can you give me a time frame on shipment? I know that I've PM'd, emailed, and I would have called about this if I had your number, but I don't. (Feel free to let me know if I need to STFU if I'm bothering you too much.) Thing is, I just don't feel like the engine is safe running it the way the cam chain is now, so I really can't ride till I get the tensioner replaced. In the mean time, I'll just go eat some worms.
Hit me up, Mark, and thank you for your work on this.

Heck no, no bother.

I've been out of town since Friday, when I get back Sunday I'll finish the last one I have at the moment and get it sent Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Now to get on the guy I had cut the bodies. He did six when I ordered 20 and the pricing was off by about 50% to the high side when I got billed for the six. I like his work, but I need to keep the price down to be able to stay at the $33 I set. He said he can do it, but his daughter runs the office and I think we need to get better communications. It's only a $4 difference, but I want to keep things affordable in my opinion. Right now I think it's there, staying under $40 total with shipping in the U.S. and under $50 world wide. Another $4 may be the difference between someone not buying the part and doing one of the maneuvers that overtighten the cam drive and may cause damage in the long run. That's been the plan all along. Primarily to help riders keep the bikes working right.

It's always been the part I'd want to buy - and would have if those other tensioner guys had made one for my Zephyr a year and a half ago. Then I wouldn't be doing this... and there wouldn't be a tensioner for the KLX250s yet. It isn't an easy part to engineer and make with the non-symmetric layout.

I can't wait, Mark. Thanks!!
BTW, the bodies are 6061 right? Ever thought of anodizing and laser engraving? Super easy to do and looks great!

I would do anodizing and engraving, but that would push the price up and that was part of my primary purpose - best reasonable cost. Neither would add value. I figure the stickers are a better "investment" in advertising, especially on a bike like the KLX.

We did use 6061T because it was what was available at a reasonable cost at the time. There is another alloy with similar characteristics that we considered, but it wasn't a better buy and 6061T has a "buzz word" appeal. Oddly enough it is common aluminum used for this sort of application because it has good corrosion resistance and also has good machining characteristics. The other alloy did too.

Being in industry for a number of years and also in college for engineering I learned about the alloys. Kind of funny - the buzz word 6061T is thrown around like it's something special, but in reality it's simply the most common machinable aluminum used in most manufacturing. I initially specified it for that very reason... buzz word appeal. I'd say "billet", since it did start out as part of a billet, but that's really pushing it... well, that and maybe using some alloy that is "aircraft grade". Heck, there's probably something on aircraft made of 6061T... so, yeah - "aircraft grade 6060T billet aluminum"! (Have I no shame? )
